my driver side mirror is hazed up and has oil at the bottom, but the electric part still works.i can get this fixed for about $175 but the guy told me that he may have to change the housing and he'll try to match the paint.i want to know, can he swap the housings(use my housing with the new parts)?

you are getting ripped off period.the "oil"is the chromatic dimming solution flowing to the bottom.just watch ebay for a dimming mirror for your car.got my new one for 60 bucks.they simply snap out and back into their housings.
there are 3 for sale on ebay now.also unless he has access to a used one the mirror alone is over 300.00 from lincoln.
