Hi All,

New to the site. I'm the original owner of a 2000 LS Sport. The auto headlight capability quite working some time ago. After search about the site I've not been able to determine with confidence which sensor on the dash controls the headlights.

There are two sensors on the dash. The one closest to the windshield is a round and low profile. The one just behind it and closest to the drive is taller and oval in shape. This oval one also contains the PATS led.

When I talked to the parts guy at the dealer I didn't walk away with much confidence as to which one was which. The service manuals that are vague as to which one is which also.

If anyone has some first hand information it would be appreciated.

Sure wish I had found the site sooner. Would have saved me some time/pain for some past repairs. I'm in it for the long haul on this car!

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Gary

The headlight sensor is part of the PATS light assembly.

Rats, I had it in my hand at the dealer then. He thought is was the other one and it's on special order. I saw that thread listed above but obviously missed the reply with the description. Thanks for the quick replies. Off to the dealer tomorrow again.

Regards,
Gary

I just fixed this issue on my 00 LS-V8, there were two domes on my dash, a flat black one which is part of the climate control, and a more up-right dome which has both the light sensor and the security light for the alarm system. I found a donor car at my local scrap yard and replaced both since both were malfunctioning ( btw under the up-right dome cover appear to be 2 led style bulbs, one appears to be "burnt out" that is normal).

Install:
-tools needed 1 medium flat head screw driver

-remove both a pillar covers carefully first with a flat head screw driver, remove the dash plastic cover with the same flat head carefully, lift up slowly and unplug the harness, replace the appropriate sensor/s and reverse install...

Should work!

-good luck

Ok, the headlights are working again!! Since I was in there I almost wish that I had replaced the sun-load sensor for the A/C. What type of symptoms appear when that sun-load sensor goes south?

Regards,
Gary

I did the hvac test and got an error code, but when I was using my climate control it would only be super hot or super cold no in between
