having no luck searching for this one

i have tried search with several diferant word clusters and get all kinds of non related crap.

what im looking for is this. i have a 02 v8. i don't like the fact that it always takes off in 2nd gear. is there any why to flash the computer so the car will use first on every take off? if not can i use a trans computer off a newer car?

Custom SCT Xcal tune has been successfully at changing start gear in SST.

You need an xcal to do that. A good amount have done that here. Couldn't find the thread but it's been talked about a lot

Yeah thats the one. I guess it's called xcal3 but they just use x3

cool thanks. it's not in the immediate budget but very near the top of the list. did anyone find the trans to have more longevity taking off in first over the second gear starts? it seems to me it would be easier on the trans starting in first.

Don't know about longevity, it was done to raise Fords CAFE average gas mileage for a few model years.
