have some questions

ok 2001 lincoln ls v8

so first off is the light on my shifter is out what is the replacement bulb?

2 is when i'm in d5 or d4 it always says d5 on the cluster and wont change anyone know what that is all about?

and last anyone know where I can find how to install my ashtray
its like the spring dont know where it goes to spring the ashtray back

1) I don't remember the part number. Remove the console top (look for the SST install instructions thread - good pictures) and you can just twist/snap the bulb out of the shifter. Take it up to the part store and ask 'em for a new one. No more than 15 minute job assuming you have torx drivers.

2) Assuming you have the standard shifter that goes P to D5 in one row, D4 to 1 in the other row: There is a switch that is tripped when you move from D5 to D4 and notifies the computer that you made the move. Switch is almost certainly faulty. You'll need to remove the console top and start disassembling the shifter to inspect the switch and check with a meter. Again, look at the SST install threads for some guidance. It's easy.

3) Er. What? Once you have the console top off, it's easy to remove the ashtray assembly and get a good look at it. If a spring is gone, then you might need to hit a junk yard of some ebay auctions.

well i think i have the spring still its the the thin brass metal wrapped up in like a circle and has a T like end oi just cant figure out how it is place to spring the ash tray out

and i dont the sst shifter just d1 to d4 then move shifter to the left for d5

Dunno on the ash tray, I haven't disassembled mine before.

My advice was for the standard shifter.

sorry i miss read what you put ill do that im gonna get a pic of that brass looking metal spring/ dont know the hell it is lol maybe it might help you guys to help me
