At very low speeds or under braking (especially under braking) I'm starting to hear a sound that doesn't sound so great from the right front tire. It's sort of a grinding sound, or like sandpaper being rubbed against something. It's especially loud when braking at low speeds, coming to a stop. Anyone know what it may be?

bad brake pads??? orr I had that sound coming from a wheel before on an oldsmobile and it was a loose brake caliper floppin around!

My first guess was the brakes, but then I noticed that I'm also hearing it when I'm rolling at low speeds without the brakes applied

I would still definitely say it's your brake pads. Your caliper is probably dragging on the disc. I know it's not always the best but I found this on wiki:

Many disc brake pads will include some sort of soft steel spring or drag tab as part of the pad assembly, which is designed to start dragging on the disc when the pad is nearly worn out. The result is a moderately loud metallic squealing noise, alerting the vehicle user that service is required, and this will not normally scar the disc if the brakes are serviced promptly.

I am having the EXACT same issue right now! My car is still under warranty and I am thinking of brining it to the dealership/stealership tomorrow.

So I went to my buddies shop today, and I told him about my issue with the grinding noise (I had just done a break job about 10K miles ago).

Long story short, there was a metal "clamp" on the calliper that was rubbing/grinding on the rotor. This "clamp" is used to help keep the brake pads in place.

Hope this helps!

I think i have the same problem. I hear a popping sound from the front right brakes at low speeds. It happens even when i'm not applying brakes or letting go of the brakes and driving slow. I think its that clamp thats doing it. What do you guys think? My brakes and rotors were replaced about 8k ago.
