Sorry, little of topic but wanted to share.

I've always known about POI on GPS's (Point of Interests) and as a trucker, I use a combination of GPS's, (and Atlas Map books) one being the simple Garmin Nuvi 255W and the Garmin Dezl 560 trucker specific.

Having not given much thought to POI's, I stumbled upon http://www.poi-factory.com this weekend. Looking around, I realized there is a wealth of interesting POI files available there.

Signed up for a free account and downloaded a couple of POI files to try it out. I had to first download and install the POI loader, which was rather simple.

The first POI file I was 'very' interested in was the CAT Scale US & Canada. Made some custom chances to the .csv file, mostly the naming convention of the locations, downloaded the bitmap icon that went with it and used the POI loader to install it onto my Garmin Dezl 560.

Wow, was I impressed, just what I needed.

Continued onto State Lines & Borders and during the POI loader install of this file, chose to set a proximity warning as to alert me when I'm approaching any state lines or borders.

Hello, where have you been all my life ?

Very handy to have in my line of work as we have to record mileage for fuel taxes via IFTA logging.

Also downloaded and installed US & Canada Fuel Truck Stops, knowing that my Garmin Dezl 560 has this information under the NTTS or POI Trucking Fuel stops, I still found this compiled list by users of more value, seems the listing is much larger and obviously has been carefully verified by people that have actually been to said locations, unlike the Garmin folks.

Great listing to have.

now, you may say, I'm not a trucker and have no use for this, but be aware there are many categories http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles to choose from.

Airports, hotels, walmarts, brand name fuel stations, auto dealers, repair shops, attractions, golf courses, restaurants, schools, wifi hot spots and more.

The list is huge and very valuable. Best part is these are confirmed POI files, compiled, verified and adjusted by members of that site.

Has a forum as well, for assistance or to read up on things.

Very interesting and am very glad I decided to venture further into POI's this weekend.

Only thing that bummed me out was the fact that on the Garmin line of products, these files loaded aren't actually seen within the 'Point of Interests' icon, one has to go into 'Extras' to find these files.
(good enough, never look a given horse in the mouth)

Enjoy, any questions, feel free to ask me.
