It's an intermittent issue. A complete set of coils and plugs are getting throws at the car since i'm tired of playing games with the dealer. I believe that will fix my issue but I wanted to run it by experts here as well.
Symptom is that under heavy throttle, like say 80% or more, when I get into the 5K-rpm I get a very fast tapping/rattling sound that reminds me of spark knock. The sound is similar to a baby rattle but only if it was all made of metal. It never occurs under low-rpm conditions, only high-RPM with 80%+ throttle. I thought it might be bad gas but it comes and goes on the same tank. Thought it might be temperature related but there's no real pattern to it. Sometimes it will come and go during the same drive from stoplight to stoplight.
Car has 72K-mi, and it chewed up a coil about 10K-mi ago and two more about 1K-mi ago. Since I'd assume rather juggle chainsaws then play the coil game with my dealer I am just going to do the Accel conversion and put new iridium plugs in it. Parts should all be here by the end of the week and I'll have my weekend project.
Should I just assume it's all coils and plugs or does this sound like something else to look at too? I have no CEL and it doesn't seem to throw codes when it happens when I plug into the OBD2 port.
Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks for your time
