I bought a Zex 82015 used for a good deal and went and bought 75,100,125 shot jets. I also bought a bottle warmer and guage for the bottle.

1. Should i spray the dry shot before or after the maf? with this kit, it has the box and hooks to the tps and taps into the vacuum for the Fuel press regulator.

2. Has anyone used the Zex kits before?

3. Anyone got pictures of the install?

4. I am going to start out with the 75 and see how it runs, should i use my xcal2 to adjust the timing with a 75? 100?

5. What numbers should i expect with my car running a 14.1 right now.

Spray it after the MAF. Don't spray pre-MAF as it can really screw things up if you do so.

Make sure that you have it properly jetted and get a nitrous tune from Logan.

If you are already running a 14.1 then you will likely dip into the low 13's when running the 100shot. You could possibly hit high 12's on the 100shot but it all depends on how you drive the car and what the conditions are.

The maf needs to see the n2o in order to adjust the fuel properly! a wet kit dose not need any extra fuel from the motor it is sprayed in with the n2o.
 
hmmm. you guys disagree.. do i still need to spray pre maf even though it is hooked up to the fpr?

I am sorry man but you do not know what you are talking about. With a Ford "hot-wire" MAF that is a good way to kill it REAL quick. Take a thin piece of wire and heat it up with voltage and then in a split second cryogenically freeze it? Yep, not good. The pre-MAF spraying way got popular with some of the Mustang crowd a few years back but they quickly realized that wasn't the proper way to do things. They were originally copying what the GM guys were doing in their LSx vehicle. The GM MAF's are different from the Ford MAF's when it comes to operation which made the GM MAF's nowhere near as susceptible to being hurt when sprayed pre-MAF.

The proper way to configure is to inject post MAF whether wet or dry. Wet you will dial your AFR's in mostly with the jets. If you desire more finetuned AFR's on the spray when using a wet system then you will need to have it tuned. The benefit of the wet is that unless you are REALLY picky you can dial your AFR's in on the spray with just going to different size fuel jets. Then just take your Xcal2 and drop spark advance in the end user adjustable settings by a few degrees.

With dry you will make ALL of your fueling adjustments in the PCM tune. This will require a FULL dedicated nitrous tune. You will have your tuner command the WOT AFR in the base fuel table, similar to what they should have done in your existing dynotune, then they will calibrate that in through the MAF Transfer Function so that actual AFR on spray equals commanded AFR in that tune. Then like always the tune will have to have a little spark advance taken out in the range that you will be spraying. The disadvantage of the dry kit on a vehicle tuned with a flash tune device such as an Xcal unit is that when you want to run the nitrous you will need to reflash the PCM first. With the wet kit you will not need to do that if you are willing to just run your spark advance a little retarded while on the street. Running a few less degrees of advance in a blown car will hurt power considerably. However, doing so on a N/A car will not hurt power much at all.
 
so take out a few degrees spark advance and see how it runs? Does it not matter that i have a C&L maf that doesnt utilize the wire?
 
ive had no complaints with my wet kit. Zex is supposed to be one of the top of the lines kits though right...

It does use the wire, it is just buried in the small sample tube.

What I suggest you do is install the system yourself, or have it installed. Then before running it whatsoever take it back to Logan and have them jet and tune it for you on the nitrous. Tuning for nitrous is easy, and while I don't personally know the tuner from Logan I am sure they are up to the task of taking care of your tuning needs. If for some reason they cannot help you then give me a call.

Zex, NOS, Edelbrock, NX, Nitrous Works, and Sniper all make pretty decent systems. Some of the solenoids are a little higher quality than others but they are all more or less comparable.

dont most kits just have jets and use a micro switch under the pedal or on throttle and an arm switch?

I always thought that's what makes zex kits so cool cuz of this extra electronics. I know they have the jets as well. But your run of the mill kit won't have this zex stuff correct?
 
Just call your tuner(logan) and ask him about spraying before maf or after maf and he will tell you which way is the best and why.

I am running various components in the system I have built for my current car. But if you are talking about where the fuel and nitrous solenoids came from that would be Barry Grant/Nitrous Works.

That has already been covered in detail earlier in this thread. If he is worth a damn, the Logan SCT tuner is going to tell him the same thing that this SCT tuner is telling him.
 
Personally, I'd just convert it to a good old fashioned wet kit and call it good. I used to run a Harris dry kit, spraying through the MAF on my 94 Mark, but converted to wet for my 93. Well, whenever I get around to doing a fuel pump and tune on it, that is... (4.11s mean I would be bouncing off the speed limiter before the traps, which is obviously bad with spray.)
 
Burbank, Yeah, i called logan today and his son was out of the shop so i guess he will get back to me thursday. Maybe ill have Nitrous for this sunday if all goes well.

I specificly was looking into this exact kit because i am new to the nitrous stage. I want to start off dry to decrease the chance of any problems from what i have read they seem to be the safest. I read a lot about them and the zex kit seemed really user freindly and was a very good system for the $$. I'll let you guys know about the install.
 
Yeah, we will see tomarrow how it runs. I can't wait it should run pretty well. Sunday is track day so ill see what she can do.
 
Hey cobrastar, i've got the same exact kit on my 98 lsc. The only thing I found was that the supply line from the bottle was too short for the mark. I needed another 3 feet. I did hide the box under the air box kinda where the air silencer was. Then ran the line thru a factory hole in the inner fender. Behind the MAF. THis whole setup is almost imposible to pick-up on. Used black wire loom to cover the shine parts. To change the pill it is a little more difficult

This is really a mustang kit.(suprise) This kit does use pills to adjust for the fuel and gas. I dont know what the advanced tech mentioned above does for the zex kit. It is the same as the others with the pills. I know some people like the wet kits but I've also heard that can be dangerous with the Intake shape the DOHC motors use. Whether it be the mark or mustang. For the 125 size dry is the way to go. Get a good fuel pump and raise the pressure to be safe when you start. The timing will adjust by itself.

You should run mid 12's with a hand tune and lower with a custom tune.

WOW! What does your car have? And what did you run in the 1/4? I was thinking of a lower 13 second time like maybe a 13.4ish. do you have a picture of your setup you installed? please send them to my email

Looked like the safest kit for beginners. I was going to start with the 75 shot. Then go up to 100 and if it liked it i was thinking of 125shot. What do you think?
 
Start with the 75 shot check the plugs and see what you got. I bought other pills from zex that would richen the fuel mixture. If you look at the pill chart you can see the pattern. More HP's bigger n2o pill and the fuel pill is smaller. Less vaccum higher psi to the injectors. If it run lean at 125 Raise the fuel rail pressure and use smaller fuel pill. That should work for this small kit. This will only work if the pump can supply at least what you need. I would make sure of that fact. I only have a sniper tuner. With the custom tune on your car I wouldn't recommend using the spray. I'm no expert but have used plenty of gas in my mark.

No I don' have any real pics of the set-up other than the bottle in the spare tire hole. If the trunks open you cannt see the bottle and if the hoods open you would be hard pressed to know I have spray. The purge kit I placed in the front grill so it sprays out thru the cool ass gen 2 grill. The soliond is under the black cover plastic in the front of the engine bay.

I like the set up but to change the pills for testing purposes I would leave the large black chin spoiler under the bumper off so you could reach up to the box to change the pills. Its tight! I almost forgot the bottle will not fit in the spare tire hole with the supplied brackets. What you will need to do is cut them down and leave just enough room the bolt it down. Then remove a few pieces of foam from the cover. The bottle will fit and look like factory when the cover is in place. The supply line exits inside the vapor canister box below the trunk. Let me see if I can get some good pics. But its all right here.

It's only 3 days to go.I can't wait to see what she does with the nitrous(I think mid to high 12's) I will let you use my Drag radials or if you still gonna have traction problems I will give you my slicks:) .We gonna have few videos on sunday Blown mark VIII vs nitrous Mark VIII :D .Anyways see you in 3 days at us 41 dragway.
