86 Town Car. Link to pics in my sig. Mine is black with black pinstripes. No, I don't understand why either. Interior is beat up grey leather.

I love that photo of yours with the "Boat Car Quartet"!! I love how you juxtapose the Town Car and the Continental, and love how you juxtapose the sheer bulk of the continental with the sleekness of the Mk V. The MGM rounds out the group nicely. So here's a question: Can you rank them? Which do you like most? Least? Why?

I ask too many questions. :)

Anyway, here's my 80's Lincoln (Dr. Lincoln, by name) She's an all-stock 1989. I would love to keep her, but I really only have room for two project cars at a time, and Moby and Lucille have got that tied up, so I'm gonna be selling her. Regrettably. But Suredly. Here are pics and a pic of my "Boat Car Duo"

Again, you can find all of these pics and more in my photo garage.

ha! "boat car quartet" , great! i thought of Land Yacht Gathering...
wow! i like that grayish 86? TC..very nice!
hm..if i had to rank..kinda easy...
1: Red Mark V(Red 400)...it's in 99.9% mint condition, and it's a classique!and 2 drs are great!
2: 88 TC(Whitey)...it's the newest we have, awesome sound system, and the color scheme is great!(but it's not a classique)
3: my friend's 86 MGM...it has some interesting mods to it, like performance exhaust, it sounds good and is real fast, and that design just has the "attack" look to it.
4: '77 TC(land yacht)...mainly, cuz it's dead now...it was ok, has problems, sounded AWESOME, got lotsa attention, and served me well.

no worries about the questioning! i don't mind at all!
hmm..."Dr. Lincoln"...very clever!
question, doc...:our 88 TC has a vibration at 40MPH(IN D), and it starts again at 50-60mph(in OD)..diagnosis? i'd appreciate it!
oh, and feel free to email me anytime at mrlandyacht@yahoo.com...i check it often at work, like every 10 mins.

Be more specific with the vibration. Does the whole car just go nuts, or is it more of a thing where you're feeling feedback through the steering wheel or the gas pedal?

If it doesn't sound like things are going out of the ordinary under the hood, then I can only suspect something in the suspension or the tires... my guess is the tires.

If those are radials, then there's a belt in the tire, and if that tire has been damaged, (which could still happen even if there's nothing visible on the surface of the tire) that belt may be messed up causing that tire to vibrate.

It happened to us on a car we had in the past. I'll bet a new tire takes care of it. If not, then we may be in over my head. But I would get that tire replaced as soon as possible.

I'm sorry, I should've been more clear. I guess what I meant was: which is your fav based just on body styles, all other factors (such as the mods on the MGM and the RIP status of your 77) be ignored for now.

I like the styling of the 77 better than the styling of the 88-89 T.C. I do absolutely love the MkV, it's so slick and graceful, but the straight up Continental still takes the cake, it's so regal and posh, and above all else, it's so damned bulky... it's a tank!. The MGM vs. the 88 TC, There are things I like better about both. The styling is more graceful and elegant on the TC, but the MGM is more menacing looking. I do like the proportions of the MGM a little better. They're built on the same frame, but the LTC is a little longer and the MGM is a little wider. The cab doesn't go so far rearwards on the MGM either, but still, there's really more to the styling on the LTC. So, I guess I will say that the 77 gets 1st, the MkV get's 2nd, the LTC gets 3rd and the MGM brings up the rear.

BTW, whatever happened to the 77?

I think MGM 2dr sedan seem look more beauitful body style than 4dr sedan MGM's..

You can see the picture where my old car of 1987 2dr MGM.

yea, i like both of the 77's, it's almost a tie betwen them, but to rank how ur saying...
1: Mark V...i just love the coupe style and that color is awesome!
2: '77 Continental Town Car...it's just so huge! and stylin! makes heads turn.
3: 88 TC...cuz it's got a true luxury car look...and i like the color scheme on ours.
4: 88 merc...it's nice, just not a lincoln.

-the '77 Continental(Town Car edition)...has developed soooo many problems, we've put a total f like $6k worht of repairs into it over the past year!..so, not wastin more $. we're donating it, i'm takin the mufflers off of it and putting them on the merc..i'm also taking the rear wheels off of it(cuz he tires on there are like only a month old)..they'll fit well on the merc as well, at least for winter.
oh, if u would like the town car hubcaps for ur continental, i'd be happy to send them to ya or sumthin, i'd only ask u to pay the shipping costs is all. lemme know.

ok..as far as the 88 TC...the vibration feels similar to a bad wheel allignment vibration...felt throughout the entire vehicle...we took it in, damn near everything was redone in the front wheels..so it's not that.
i'm thinking that it could be transmssion related, or maybe the torque converter is goin.
thanx bud...ttyl

Could be a tire out of balance or a bad one. I had a belt snap in one of the tires on my 86 and it had an annoying vibe at 60 and again around 75. Bad front wheel bearings can also do that, but if they've been replaced I'd rule that out. Could also be a driveshaft out of balance or worn universal joints.

I'd love to have an all black interior/exterior. I think it would look pretty sweet. Car has original paint, so unless the color faded out, they were black from the factory. I'll see if I can grab a pic tomorrow. It looks strange to say the least.

I'm thinking that if I ever get the spare cash to afford a proper refinishing, I'd like to remove the full vinyl top and go half cloth "roadster top". Mostly that depends on the condition of the metal under the vinyl. In any case it needs the top to be redone, so even if I have to retain the full top, I'd like to go cloth just so it would be a little different. Thats still a long long way off though. It would probably stay black, but the pinstripes would either totally go, or be replaced with silver to match the grey interior.

Wow, that'd be awesome! You're talking the turbine style ones? The ones that look kinda like the ones on my 89 but designed to fit the 77? (there is a slight size diff) Yeah, I'd love to have those... lemme know what shipping would be! I'd have you ship it to my work, the zip is 50310.

That's sweet, man! :Beer

Re: your comment about the Town Car. Yeah, it does just pop luxury, doesn't it? I think it's styling is even more regal than the 77's, just less dynamic. (at least on the front and sides) In fact, wasn't Lincoln's slogan back then "What a Luxury Car should be."? I do still like the 77 better. :)
