Howdy,

Well I think I have enough reason to pull the headliner down and add a new rearview mirror in addition to getting to stick up in the back again. How hard is it to get down and then more importantly, how hard is it to put it back up and get it to stay there?

Thanks,

PITA. Not worth the trouble. My local Lincoln dealer won't even do it anymore, they send them out if the headliner needs repairing. I believe you have to remove all the trim and windshiled, at least that is what I have read and have been told.

Well I don't want to get it out of the car, just down so I can wire the dimming rearview mirror in. It has also come loose around the CHMSL and I'd like to get it back flush with the ceiling again.

the windshield does not need to come out, the visors, the oh sh1t hanldes, A pillars, B pillars, and the C pillars need to come out, and its velcroed up in a few places. all the hardware you need to remove holds it up along with the velcro. i took mine down to replace all the lights.

the best way to fix the sagging rear is to get a large patch of velcro (like 2"x 5")and epoxy the two pieces, one to the headliner and the other to the brake light, and let it cure BEFORE you push them back together

I'd add to this that instead of epoxy use gorilla glue. In my '03 I had this problem, and I tried the velcro tabs, multiple velcro tabs, velcro tabs with silicone (dad's suggestion), what finally worked was 1 velcro tab gorilla glued on the sticky sides. That headliner didn't even come down when I took it off-roading to its demise. :P

But yes, let it cure before you stick it together. Like overnight. I didn't do this, I propped up one of those folding chairs for camping(it was just the right height to go from backseat to roof) to hold it in place overnight.

This was the solution for my sagging headliner as well. I took it to Lincoln 3 times before I managed to fix it myself in 30 minutes.

I chewed out one of the Lincoln service reps after he used double-sided black sticky tape to try and solve the problem. What a freakin' joke.

Off-roading to its demise? Sounds like a story! Tell us! Or did I miss the thread about it :shifty:
