Was wondering if anyone has ever done this to the rear neon and taillights? Would look pretty good and a black one. Opinoins?

You know what... I saw on here a little while back a black gen II with Blacked out headlights.. i dont remember who it was. but it looked sweet!!! dont remember if he did the tail lights too??? i dont know..

I blacked out the tails on my white 98LSC. It looks AWESOME! I'll get some pics for you tonight when I get home from work. I don't know how it would look on a black car. Part of what makes it look so good on the white I think is the contrast from white and black right next to each other. Now I just need to black out the chrome around the windows and tint the windows so it matches the tails.

Post a pic... Love that look

Post up that pic

I just picked up a black on black gen 2 and i've been thinking about blacking out the middle light if it goes bad because i had to drill some holes to let the moisture out.

I'll probably buy another working light, and black this one out, i was thinking about that last night actually and came on here to see this;

Ive been thinking about doin the tails as well as the chrome around the windows, just havent decided one way or another yet.

Disregard the trim piece that is hanging off. It has since been fixed.

looks good, but i want to see a pic with the lights on, day and night..........people have a hard time paying attention to normal brake lights.

Go to a body shop and have them mask off your tail lights, then add black paint to clear coat. Spray then check, and spray again until it's as dark as you want. Wetsand, buff, peel off mask, done.

Oh, didn't realize you were the same guy.

As for how I did it, VHT Niteshades.

I got them from a store nearby, where it was $8/can and I used 2 cans, so including masking tape, doing this cost me less than $20

In the daytime, the lights are slightly dimmer than normal, but not by much. At night, you can't tell at all. They still shine bright red when the lights or the brakes are applied. My center light doesn't work right now, so I don't know how that will look, but I imagine it would be the same.

When you get up close, you can see the red through the black, and it kind of has a purpleish look to it, but from 5ft+, it looks straight black. Also I was in a rush and didn't do too good a job of masking it, so there is some overspray on the white trim around the light that I haven't had a chance to clean off yet, but just taking your time would avoid that problem. There is no clearcoat, no black paint, and no wetsanding and buffing needed. Just clean the lights really well with rubbing alcohol to get any dirt and oils off, then mask off the trim around the light, and spray. Also, it is best to take the lights off the car to do this, cause you need to do a lot of thin coats otherwise it will run like crazy, so having the light flat on the ground makes it less likely to run. If it does run, you need to wet-sand it all off and re-do it cause even if the run settles out, as soon as the light shines from behind, you will see it perfectly and it will look like crap. Oh, also the nice thing about the niteshades is you can put as many or as few coats as you want. I have about 5 coats on those lights to get them to look completely black. If you just want it to be slightly darker, then 2 or 3 coats will be fine. Just spray a thin coat, wait 10 mins, see how it looks, and if you want darker, spray another coat. You have 24 hours to work with it before you would have to resand the light, so you can even put it back on the car after a few hours to see how it looks, and if you don't like it, take it off and add another coat.

How do you know that's what it is? I would think regular paint wouldn't let the light shine through, and therefore wouldn't work.

Your not applying straight paint. Just painting black will cover over any light. Your spraying a clear coat tinted with a little black. Like light shining through dirty water, not solid cup of dirt. Looks great.

i think it looks great, and it sets your mark apart from others. i would love to see it with the windows tinted.

I'll be doing that soon...

It will also be getting a set of 96 tbird sport 16" wheels, painted black. Shiny stuff just doesn't do it for me the way black does.

That's like asking a baseball player how he knows where second base is..

Paint is always thinned, otherwise nobody would ever have a spray on paint job. Except that's laquer, which evaporates. Clear coat, is clear paint. Add black paint, mix it up, put it in the gun, voila, transparent black paint. My ghost flames came out too bright (didn't realize until I got it out of fluorescent light and into the sun) .. a couple coats of tinted clear ghosted 'em right up.

what about a black translucent vinyl? any logo could be printed onto or cut out of it. now that would be awesome, and for those not wanting black you could color match to your car.
