Aight guys, Its cold where i live, not sure if this affects anything but when i turn on my car, it smells like gas and fumes, then it goes away for a while, but it just stays in the car for a bit, anyone know what this smell could be?

Same thing happens to me, 2000 V8, I read somewhere that it could be injector related. It is very annoying.

Gas fumes can come from many sources. Usual ones are

Overfilled vapor return system. If you overfill your gas tnak all the time, it is possible your carbon cannister is full of gas. This can only be fixed by a replacement and not topping up when the gas nozzle shuts off. I have never seen this problem myself but have read about it in several webpages.

Alternatively, the lines for the vapor return system are cracked and need replacing.

The gas tank in our LS is under the rear seat. There is a gasket on the top that seals the fuel pump and gauge sender. My dealer was working on this once and kinked the gasket which made my car smell like gas. You can get at the tank by removing the seat.

You might have a leaky injector or fuel line somewhere. You need to rtrace it down and fix that.

Those are some of the usual suspects.

Good Luck,

JIm Henderson

while we're on the topic of smells, if i'm running the heat relatively high in my car for a fair amount of time (which i have to in syracuse) i start to get burning rubber smell, in and out of the car, i'm thinking its time to replace my accessory belt... yes/no?
