Gap between MAF and spectre adapta

Has anyone had this problem? What are the long term results as far as damage and how to fix it right?

I think I saw on here about someone having this problem but after spending hours reading through threads I can't find it. I took out my stock air box and bolted the spectre to the MAF. The air gap is at this spot.

gaps are bad...



as long as the gap is before the MAF (air box side) the car will at least run fine BUT unfiltered air is getting in... dirt, dust , and other crap could be getting into the engine causing extra wear (scratched pistons/rings/cylinder walls)

if the gap is after the MAF (engine side) then unmetered air is getting into the engine that the computer doesn't know about and therefore is not able to get a proper air/fuel mixture...

either way, you need to fix the gap.

I'm using the Spectre 8145 MAF adapter and I don't have any gap.

^ this is a pic of it in it's earlier stage, before the Hite Performance heat shield. See the rubber gasket in between the MAF and Adapter? (not yet trimmed down)

^ ended up having to trim down the MAF so I could get a better clamping force. replaced worm clamp with a truck hose clamp.

^ just this line cut into it on both sides, gave it some room to clasp down onto the intake tube. It wasn't tightening before.

^ Heat shield added after prep.

^ and looks like such with no gaps and nothing loose. (K&N RF-1015 Filter not added in this pic)

if there is a gap between the MAF and the filter adapter, then you probably have a bad (or the wrong sized) adapter

Hes probably not using a gasket between the MAF and the Spectre adapter.

Thanks Hite, yup that's the problem now is there one available or do I make my own?

I dont think there is one available. You can use some 1/8" rubber and trace the MAF adapter on the rubber. Drill your holes, cut the pattern and done.

Tip....cut the outside bigger than you need or the very thin parts of the gasket could get sucked in creating a gap.

BigRig, I see you cut hard plastic, then on the next pic it shows hard plastic to metal. I understand the reasoning behind the cutting, but is there a rubber gasket between the MAF and the metal tube? If not I see that as an area that will leak air, all the way around between the metal tube and hard plastic. That was really designed to have a rubber tube pulled over it, not have a tube stuck inside of it. If it becomes a problem there are companies that sell silicone MAF couplers, just have to find one with the right size.

MAF to tube is tight, no leak. it's a tight fit, the grooves were cut in order to get a more complete tightening.
Inside diameter of MAF is same size as outside diameter of Intake tube. It's pressed on and bottoms out.
