My car came with a sirius radio built in. It took me forever to get the radio ID to start a new plan but I finally figured that out. Now I cant get the damn thing to activate. It says to change the channel to 184 but I cant get the tuner to go there. The highest channel I have is 159 or something. I've read on some other forums about hard resetting the unit, but I haven't the slightest idea as to where the tuner actually is located. Anyone have this problem? Did hard resetting help? And where the hell is the tuner?

I've been fighting this damn thing all day

as far as resetting just about anything in this car if you can find it, unplugging the battery for awhile will usually do the trick.

Alright Ill give it a try tomorrow. That will also reset the adaptive transmission right? (which is something I want to do anyway since I just bought the car and want it to learn my style of driving)

It will learn your style anyway. I don't know if it would take it any longer to learn starting from defaults or starting from the previous driver.

Not all sat radios have the capability to do all channels. If it was designed before the merger, it may need to be replaced with a newer model.

Yea, but 184 has always been the Sirius default; at least since 2001 or '02.

I was pretty peeved that I couldn't get some of the Christmas channels last year. I'm also not about to pay ~$300 for the factory unit just to get them. I still have my CDs, after all!

You guys ever hear of pandora? Way better and its free.

Meh, it unplugging the battery didnt work. I planned to use sat until I got my new headunit, but maybe ill just make the new HU a higher priority

try that sh!t on a ten hour trip, it will work great through the major cities, on and off between them, and good luck through the hills of Tennessee and Kentucky, if i was cheap, i would have bought a focus.

Nothing cheap about paying $100 a month for my cellphone. And I get great signal with Verizon.

Is that that thing that plays on a cell phone? My cell phone is just a phone.......

It's an app that you can load and play free radio using the phones data connection.

I have an iPhone 4 and it's always with me so I always have radio with me. And I have music on it for when I lose signal. Can connect to most double dins. Can also play music while in using my phone to navigate with the gps app.

You need to call SiriusXM and have them resend the signal. You need to be in the car with the ACC on. It can take up to 15 minutes for the signal to reach and download. If the car is off, you will have this problem.

Question...... I've had this done a couple of times and since I got a new antenna (metra 44something) I get an intermittent "service satellite" message. Do I need to stay on 184 or can I change channels? 184 gets booooooorrrrring very quickly!! 3

so do I, but there are plenty of places driving across the country where even big red cant cover (there are quite a few spots where there is barely enough reception to make a phone call, let alone have enough bandwidth to stream media)

Yeah for those cases I have plenty of music on here. I have the 16gb iPhone 4. Which phone you have??

From what I have seen iPhones tend to get better signal that money other phones. Think due to the dual antennae.

They will get better signal then cheap smart phones, but almost all high end smart phones are going to be the same signal wise. They all basically use the same chips per network

I was wondering about streaming on VZW. How much data do you use in a typical month? I have 5GB right now and it is very frustrating they don't have unlimited anymore.

If you got it before they added the 5GB plans then you should have grandfathered unlimited on the account. I dont check but i use alot. But most of the time im on wifi.

Droid Bionic (8 gb internal, and 16gb micro SD), with most top tier phones, the hardware is very similar but (at least with android) the software makes the biggest difference in signal reception. which kernel you are running can make it either amazing or just plain terrible. and while Moto may not have the greatest skin over vanilla android, they have always had one of if not the very best radios in them.

depends on what you are streaming, different sources use different compressions with either use more or less data from the same piece of media. for the most part music isn't too bad, but movies on the other hand will burn your limit fast as fast can be (especially if your always on LTE) with very little streaming, i seem to be around 500mb, but if im heavy on youtube and streaming audio, i can use well over 2gb. the highest ever was still less than 5 (DL'ing a lot of stuff through tether) , but i never use it in the car, and 60%-70% of my music streaming is done on my work computer or my DirecTV box through my home stereo.

you can always DL a data tracker widget to keep close eyes on the meter.

I'll take my SLACKER any day of the week over Pandora

eehhhhhhh, its a toss up. i would five Pandora the lead just because it is integrated in to more devices, you really cant beat the amount of radios and other things that are starting to have Pandora integrated right in.
