im about to purchase a lincoln LS V8 black/tan with 62k miles for 12k... but the problem is that the car has the "mystery beep" that wont go away. theres no problems and the car fax is clean. so is there anyway to cut a wire or something to stop the beeping or am i doomed for insanity with the beep:eek: ?
thanks in advance!
(I already researched);)

How often is it beeping? The "normal" mystery beep is related to an overly sensitive sensor relating to the transmission, and usually only beeps once maybe once every couple of weeks or so? (at least that is my experience)

If you are experiencing the beeps on a much more regular basis, that may be a symptom that something more serious is going on.

To get rid of the beep, there is a wire you can cut. To get to the wire, you will need to cut the red wire that connects to the battery (the battery is in the trunk). From there, you will need to splice into the black wire coming from the battery and hook the red wire up to that as well........the beep should be gone at that point.

just kidding.......

it beeps all the time since i started the car and even when its off until i remove the key.

Based on your description, that's not the same "mystery beep" commonly discussed here.

Correct. It is not normal for a LS (or any car for that matter) to constantly beep with engine started, doors closed, all seatbelts fastened.

so no deal on the LS? OR ask for a 30 day warranty and take it to a dealer to be scanned for codes?

It's a personal decision. But if it were me, I'd make the purchase contingent on the seller getting it fixed, or allowing you to take it to the dealer to get it fixed. Alternatively, have him knock $500 off the selling cost.

make the present owner take the car to get it fixed and don't finalize the deal until you see the details of what had to be repaired. Now it might be something simple like a door pin is bad or something major.
The PO may know what it is, if it is something simple then they should be willing to get it fixed to sell the car. If it is very expensive they will abort the deal.

I agree 100%, I would not buy the car until the current owner fixes the problen a guarentees that it is fixed. There are many more LS'es out there in teh same price range with the same miles that may not have the problem you are running into. Be patient......thats the name of the game.

There is one possibility...there's a "tamper alert" beep that the LS makes if someone has been messing with the instrument cluster. If the car has been left sitting on a lot long enough, that can also trigger the tamper alert beep.

I don't remember the details of this beep, but it has something to do with shifting into reverse. If you search on beep and reverse (and maybe tamper or cluster), you should be able to find something useful.

If that's the case, a dealer needs to check the car. It may be caused by inactivity, but it may be caused by nefarious activity...

so if the dealer agrees to fix w/e the problem is on writting than take the car or leave it until he fixes it?...thanks for the opinions

I would recommend having it fixed before accepting the car. Getting it in writing should protect you, but if the dealer wants to drag it out, it could be a PITA.

Wow, that was weird. My post somehow doubled (though it looked like it posted about 8 times before I refreshed).

The dealer agreed to fix the beep problem and some minor cosmetic problems in writting. so i'm about to make a deal tommorrow and hopefully it's not a huge issue.
THANK YOU EVERYONE
