Well I purchased a zex wet kit, and before I install it, I need a fuel pump.

My research has led to an SVT Focus pump. The 98 mark viii has the returnless style basket, and the svt focus pump will drop right in.

Is this correct info?

I just checked pic of 97 and it was RETURN style. I read on here that most Gen2 guys use/like the focus pump. I thought I read that you have to reverse the wires on pump. More will chime in on this.

No and yes. It has a basket, but it's a return style fuel system.

98s supposedly have a different basket.

Nope. A different color, but I didn't see any functional differences.

I'm not a Gen2 guy but I thought 97-98 gen2 was all the same. I don't know for sure thou.

Minor differences with the emissions piping outside the tank.

Here are a couple of pics of a '97 Gen 2 fuel tank that I recently swapped a SVT Focus fuel pump into, and then installed into a '98. The '97 and '98 tanks are identical, some of the external emissions piping is a bit different, but the tank itself is the same.

It's a different connector all together. IIRC the wires need to be reversed but also you need to use the connector for the SVTF pump into the mark wiring. Both stock and SVTF pumps have the + terminal marked for referrence.
