I also posted this in the general Mark VIII discussion area so its possible you may have already read this...

I tried to start my car a few weeks ago and I heard some metal "grinding" sounds coming form the motor so I imediately shut it down. I have not tried starting since then.

Some one from the other thread said that it may be chain tensioners that have gone bad. My car stays in the parking garage at my apartments so I have no place to pull the cover off and make sure.

The tranny is solid, no fluid leaks, slight leak in rear air but takes about three days to go completely empty, needs shocks, cold a/c, hot heat, driver seat has come loose underneath so it leans back a little. Brand new rotors and pads all the way around. Sensor lowered.

Body is about 6/10 due to small scratches and tiny dents here and there. Interior is about a 6/10 due to stains in the rear floorboards and driver seat loose.

147k miles. $1000 takes it. Im located in Richardson, TX 75081

Have you tried to spin the accessories with the belt off to see if you can recreate the sound? It could be something simple.

When I read this about the belt I thought, "I remember the belt being in bad shape when I bought the car."

So let the laughing begin: To my own defense, it is very dark in the parking garage with dull lighting so I did not notice the shredded belt before lol. The "hurt" motor sound I was hearing was the belt slapping everything in its path. While replacing the belt I noticed the water pump leaking. So I put a new one on. In addition, the battery was dead due to sitting for 3 1/2 weeks. So I had to buy a new battery.

$170 later, runs like a top again.

Always look for the simple things. I am glad it worked out for you.
