Will you consider just selling the tube w/out the filter?

I might be intrested in just the filter. Whats the price for seperate.

good lord thats a ton of metal to conduct unerhood heat!!!! Glad I have an 03!!!

I'd prefer to sell the whole unit because I don't want to be stuck with just one part that is of no use to me. But if you two want to split it, I'd be glad to seperate it and ship the tube and filter to seperate addresses. As long as I get $200 total for it, I'm happy. How's $150 for the tubes/couplers (everything from the throttle body to the MAF) and $50 for the filter/aluminum MAF adapter sound? PM me your ZIPs and I can estimate shipping to each.

FYI, there was one other guy that showed interest in the tubes only.

I've never found the metal tube to ever get very warm, even after slow traffic on 90+F days. Airflow is pretty good so heat transfer to the internal air is nil. But yeah, FoMoCo engineering putting the throttle body way back there w/ the intake path all the way around the engine compartment is typical retarded Ford.

Just out of curiosity, how often do you make a habit of feeling the intake tube to see if its hot? I dont go digging around my engine after a long drive very much, but the few times i have ever opened the hood everything is hot, including the plastic engine cover. I just got home after driving for awhile and opened my hood to feel around, i couldnt even keep my hand on the plastic engine cover for more than 2 seconds without burning my hand. You cant honestly say that its never got "warm"? Anything metal under that hood is gonna get damn right HOT. Thats 3 feet of metal intake and its all gonna get very very hot.

The metal gets hot...but the air spends so little time in the tube it will have little effect on performance. If stuck in traffic perhaps but your not likely using max HP then anyways. Mine is different but same concept and while I turn better times cooled its not only because of that piece. And my cooled times are only about .2 quicker.

I know this has been debated extensively. I was just commenting on his remark about the tube not getting warm, thats just not true. Its does, now whether it transfers that heat is another debate. Also the remark about a 90+ degree day is silly, the engine gets the same temp. whether its 50 degrees out or 100 degrees out.

When I stop for gas and check the oil, I've felt the tube. Yeah, OK, it's mighty warm, but not enough to burn my hands by any means. Maybe my fingers are numb? In any case........

That's the bottom line. It is certainly no worse than the black plastic tube it replaces as far as heat transfer to the moving air. In fact, due to it's metalic finish and less internal surface area (no sound-deadening baffles and flexible bellows) and smoother flow with less turbulence, it conducts/radiates LESS heat to the air as it passes through than the stock tube it replaces.

Bottom line is that these intakes (yours and the latest design) work. They make power and reduce ETs. So a hot metal intake will out perform the slightly cooler plastic stocker.

I didnt mean burn literally but i didnt want to keep my hand on it for more than a few seconds. Next time you got your hood up after driving feel around under there. There alot of very hot surfaces including plastic.

Obviously it works; if it didn't, K&N wouldn't have as good of a business as they do. However, i've seen countless dyno sheets from K&N showing the plastic tube performance intakes they make put out SLIGHTLY better power numbers than the metal tube. I'm not saying it's monumental, but as I recall the difference between the two kits for the 03 thunderbird is about 2HP; not even anything to make a huge difference. As for the 02 and below with about 4 times as much tubing, I don't know. Anyway my real point, and I guess I didn't really state it was more so the fact that it wraps around the entire front of the engine and to the other side. Why they didn't see this as being rediculious is beyond me.

And on a side note... one of the reasons our cars do so well with these intakes is the factory intake is designed to actually heat the air, there by slowing it down and taking away that rushing sound. That's why they have parts of it that go directly behind the radiator. Anyhow, good luck on the sale of that big snake!
