I've read the other posts about front end noises, but this noise is very hard to describe. I thought it might be the wheel hub, but have been advised it maybe related to my brakes. It's a rattling-knocking noise that can be heard a low speeds, and gets louder when I make a left turn. It sounds like it's coming from the right side but is hard to tell. I can't hear it when I apply the brakes, but it comes right back when I'm off the brakes at low speed. It's very annoying and doesn't sound like it will be safe to continue driving the car with it. I was experiencing, and still am, a shuttering/grinding/vibration under even moderate breaking from high speed. it's an almost grinding noise, separate fromt the rattling-knocking noise and only under these braking conditions. Slow speed braking doesn't cause the noise/shuddering. I had this noise looked at by the dealer 3 months ago but was told the brakes are at %60 and no problems. Can anybody make suggestions. 2003 LS V6, it'll go into the dealer as soon as I'm back in town, I got a rental to go out of town for work.

sounds like it could be a wheel hub assembly. they were common on the early models. there is an updated hub, of which i have 2 on order for myself. could start there i guess.

That's what I thought it was reading other posts on this forum, until someone suggested the brakes. It does seem to make the noise in direct relation to wheel speed. Can you provide the updated hub part numbers, and the approximate price please? Are you getting the work done at the dealer? Is it an intesive job or easily replaced? Thanks.

i will be getting it done at the dealer, since i work there.....el cheapo labor. updated part number is 5W4Z-1104-BA. retail is about $132 ea. i can sell them to you a lot cheaper if you are interested. lmk via pm.

I am experiencing the same noise as described above. I took it to the dealership last week and they replaced the sway bar and links. cost me $671!! This made sence to me at the time because of all the posts I have seen with this problem. Anyone else had this issue? 2002 V8

Juswt got rid of that sound. Changed the ball joints, brakes, struts, and it ended up being the sway bar and links. The shop did it for free since I paid for the other stuff.

Wow, i dont have any problems with my wheel hubs or bearings *yet* *knock on wood*. But i do have some small slight clicking sound coming from under the hood. not too much, only does it once in a while when accelerating and then disappears. anyone got any suggestions?

ive heard it could be a bad valve cover gasket for the upper intake manifold, or a bad spark plug coil, or a bad spark plug.

It could be the lifters too...I dunno that was a problem on the early 90 model 300zx. bad lifters you'd hear tickin noise when engine was at idle or in a certain rpm range. Had to use some oil additives and a thicker oil weight to get rid of that noise. Or simply replace em but that cost a lot..
