i took out all the plugs and coils and tried to wipe most of the oil off...the coils had a funny white thick oily pat on the tip that goes over the plug. what was that? i put everything back on but same probs...loss of power...hesitation...rough idle almost to stall...so i guess what im asking is do i need all new coils since they were soaked in oil...and plugs also?....and one more question...are those coils on ebay for 100 any good or are they junk...thanks for the help guys

Here is some advice from a poor guy.

1. Replace valve cover gaskets
2. Replace spark plugs
3. Replace coils

If you do not replace valve cover gaskets, you will ruin your new spark plugs and coils.

Search for instructions on how the process or look in the tech article.

+1

Since you didn't tell us what year and engine you have, I would also suggest (if you have the Gen I V6 LS replacing the PCV and PCV elbow while you're in there.
