Dont forget the key word here is concept. When Ford produces it, it will probably be a 4-cyl looking more like this :)

hahaha, yeah this looks like wishful thinking that this car will be made, looks alright from the side though. ditto on the 300 comparison

That little blue car is realy sharp. I wonder how many of the younger guys here know what kind of car that is without doing some kind of search on it. I remember guys stuffing 289 and 302's in them.

I will like to add one of those to my collection, soon as I find solid but cheap. 5.0 H.0. T-5 conversion would be the plan.

That concept has been around for a few years...probably before the 300 came out but not sure.

it doesn't look like it has door handles? i cannot imagine a mass produced vehicle without door handles. i've seen this concept around on the internet. looks too good to be produced to me.

Its a pinto, my mom had a mercury bobcat when I was about 5, basically the same car, what a POS!

Hey, If you look real good at it you'll see the door handles right under the windows in that bright strip.

And for the man who idenitified that picture one big HURRAY and for the Bobcat twin that was good.

I knew all about the pinto... with the right combination of entirly new drive train, that could be one little screamer of a car! Had no idea there was a twin called the bobcat though.

I personally don't like that concept... too big of a front end; what happened to cars being (somewhat) areodynamic?

Man, are you guys late to the party. This came out at NAIAS back in January.

No, the Interceptor came out in January. You're thinking of the Ford 427 concept, which did come out before the 300.

If you'll go look around AutoWeek's Web site, there's a video wherein Dutch Mandel interviews J Mays next to the Interceptor on the stand at NAIAS. The payoff is ~5 minutes into the interview when they fire that mother up. Let's just say that the cameraman wasn't quite ready for the guy in the driver's seat to put his foot in the bowl. ;)

FWIW, the Interceptor is powered by a 5.0 Cammer which may or may not be turbo charged (press materials report 400hp; in the above interview, Mays says it has 500hp, and that sure sounds like a turbo spinning down). Also, the press materials say it has a live axle, but someone got down and looked at the IRS under the rear end.

Here's the video:

The best automotive quote of the year come from an exchange between Dutch and Mays in that interview. Mays has just compared the Five Hundred to a Brooks Brothers suit (while the 300 would be a Versace).
Dutch: Is this a Hugo Boss suit?
Mays: I don't know if it's a Hugo Boss suit, but it's a big, bad-ass sedan.

Thats what I meant, the general concept. Started as the 427 maybe 5 years ago?

When I first saw the 300 I thought...beat Ford to it.

Yeah, the 427 was in '02 or '03, I think. The difference between the 300 and the Interceptor is that the Interceptor nailed the styling; the 300 just looks freakin' goofy (IMHO).

They might get around to making some version of it... They need to milk as much profit out of the Mustang platform as possible. If they could make a minivan off the Mustang chasis, they're probably working on those plans right now too..

I think it looks sharp. If it handles and performs well and Ford starts to consider build quality, then it'll be worth checking out when it's released. My newest beef with the new Mustang is the fact that the penny-pinchers at Ford decided to save money by making the carpets on the shore barely long enough to reach the gas pedal, and not allow it to run up the firewall.

Well, even if it does get to the production, Not only the front is gonna look like an azz (not a nice azz). Like when Ford messed up the Lincoln Zephyr concept and now it looks like a fuzzy I don't know what.

Yeah lets hope the front doesn't look like azz. From the edge of it I'm not liking it.

The Zephyr/MKZ looks different from the concept because the guys who built the concept weren't bound by the constraints of reality. That is, the Zephyr/MKZ looks different from the concept because there was no way to build the concept as a production vehicle.

Front and rear kinda suck..front worse than the rear. Rear kinda has a old Galaxie look. Front looks like a typical boring Ford piece from today.

Dig the old school interior touches.

i think the front could be improved easilly, heres a quick photo hack, i say get rid of the 3rd bar in the front and get rid of all that damn chrome!!

If the car is fast, it'll sell.

If they slip in a 200hp V6, you might as well start lining your bird cage with the Ford stock.
