I got a price to put some flowmaster series 40 delta flows on my 01 ls v8. I'm a little worried that the 40's will be too loud. I wanted to go with the 50 series but he said that they would not fit (body too big). I'm keeping the factory piping and resonators just swapping the mufflers. Anyone else out there have a similar setup? All the sound clips I've heard with 40's all had cat-bat systems on them with the resonators removed. He told he he would extend the muffler tip below the bumper a hair to help kill the resonance.

I do not have it done but I want the FM 40's on mine when I get the money to have it done, only difference is I want do the piping aswell. I would assume it won't be god awful loud but it well be noticable, definitely when you go WOT.

FWIW, I have the Magnaflow catback system on mine without resonators, and I still don't think that it's loud enough. The resonators will really make it quiet. If you are interested, I can sell you the magnaflow resonator that I pulled off of mine so that you can get more flow. I'll send you some pics if you're interested. You may have seen this video already, but it will show you what Flows sound like on an LS. This is dvarela's LS (member here). This is w/o resonators. With resonators, it will be half as loud and less "gurgly". Hope this helps.

I'm not a fan of flowmasters, I have had them on other cars and they are just have way to much resonance.
I had them on two different mustang GT's and even a four cylinder mustang.
They all droned so bad (even with longer tips and different sized cans) that I just got headaches from them.
Also the stainless steel ones that I had on my last LX rusted out just like they were mild steel so I was not impressed with them at all.

I would have to hear them on someone's LS and let them have them on for a while before I would get them.

Yeah I saw that clip before. I think I've come full circle on this whole issue. If I lose the resonators I'll get the sound outside the car I want, but inside It'll probably have the resonance hum I despise. If I keep the resonators and go with the 40's it may be too quiet to sound like muscle and will probably sound like a Cavalier Z24' with a 3.1 or worse yet RICE. Magnaflow are a little too tame for what I'm after. Unfortunately I don't have the coin to just start playing around till I find what I want.

I drove around for about a week with my 04 V8 with the resonators in place with no mufflers and tips coming out the back. It actually sounded pretty good! It was quiet inside the car but had that Mustang 5.0 rumble outside. Why waste money on mufflers? Try that route first. Cut the mufflers out with a sawzall and just put a pipe in place with a tip.

Do you have a sound clip of that?

I have a video on youtube with my sytem without resonators, it sounds more aggressive than I thought it would. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjpD-WfrUS8

Are you talking about the standard Magnaflow mufflers or the MagnaPack's.

The flows are fairly quiet and keep the neighbors happy but a set of magnapacks on the same car will set of car alarms.

You might want to check into the Magna Packs if the 'Flows are too quiet for you.

Would doing this cause any loss in power? And how big are your tips? 4"?

You should look at MAC mufflers I had the cat-back on my mustang. If I were going to do it over again I still would go with MAC. Very good sound they dont sound "hollow" like the flows

The stock Mustang 5.0 rumble is pretty much what I'm after. What did you change to after a week? I'm kinda tempted to try this. It would fit my budget too.

Doing this may lose some torque, backpressure to a certain degree will make more torque, while it may increase HP a bit more. Yes my tips are 4" they fill out the openings in the bumper perfectly.

I drove like this for a week, because I ordered the wrong size mufflers, so my muffler guy temporarily put a piece of pie there until my mufflers came in. I am using Magnaflow mufflers and tips. 2.25" piping all the way back.

I got the 40 series flowmaster w/ cats. Sounds great imho. Definitely the loudest LS I've seen on here. I was debating the 50 series but flowmaster's are flowmaster's...go with the 40s. If you don't like it...change it.
