It's usually the $100 diagnostic charge at a dealer.
Most locksmiths charge less.
You can do it yourself with the right scan tool, but the ones that can do it are usually in the $400 range.

That's not bad at all. I'll order one but it'd be nice if it had the Lincoln logo. The dealer who sold me the car said he had two remotes, two keys and a valet key. They sent me one original key fob, one weird generic one, one key with a ford logo and the valet key.

If you have two keys that will start the car ("one key with a ford logo and the valet key") then you have everything that you need to add the third key yourself.

1. Insert the first previously
programmed coded key into the
ignition from 2 (OFF) to 4 (RUN)
(maintain ignition in the 4 (RUN)
position for at least three seconds,
but no more than ten seconds).
2. Turn the ignition to the 2 (OFF)
position and remove the first coded
key from the ignition.
3. Within ten seconds of turning the ignition to the 2 (OFF) position,
insert the second previously programmed coded key into the ignition and
turn the ignition from the 2 (OFF) position to the 4 (RUN) position
(maintain ignition in the 4 (RUN) position for at least three seconds, but
no more than ten seconds).
4. Turn the ignition to the 2 (OFF) position and remove the second
coded key from the ignition.
5. Within twenty seconds of turning the ignition to the 2 (OFF) position,
insert the new unprogrammed key (new key/valet key) into the ignition
and turn the ignition from 2 (OFF) to 4 (RUN) (maintain ignition in the
4 (RUN) position for at least three seconds). This step will program your
new key to a coded key.
6. To program additional new unprogrammed key(s), wait at least twenty
seconds and then repeat this procedure from Step 1.
If successful, the new coded key(s) will start the vehicle’s engine and
the theft indicator will flash on and off. You may repeat Steps 1 through
5. If failure repeats, take your vehicle to your authorized dealer in order
to have new spare key(s) programmed.
 
I was wondering if this car programs just like any other pats ford. I just ordered a spare key as well. Thanks Joe
 
New keys

Anyone in the Tidewater area of Virginia can get replacement keys with a chip made at: Tudors ACE Hardware, 1642 Sparrow Rd, Chesapeake, VA. 23325. 757 366-9506. Went there today excellent service!

Did they need 2 keys still?
 
I finally went and got this key cut today, my local dealer actually cut it for free (I'd recommend going to the parts counter not your service adviser). The method Joe posted worked fine and the key started the car but you'll have to program the remote separately:

1. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode.
2. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.
3. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
 
lincoln ls flipkey

Hey so I ordered one from ebay too, but it didn't work as far as programing it for my 2001 LS.
I asked the seller if it could work and they didn't know if it would. So me being me I set out to make it happen! I went to the dealer the acted like it was an alien key couldn't program it. Big waste of 45 mins.

At this point I took it as a loss. But today I felt handy so I grabbed it and disassembled it and then did some modding to it took the chip that came with it out and got my old key pulled the chip out and put my chip in and it worked! :D now I'm just trying to get tge locks to reconize the lock, unlock and panic features.

Anyone know how to do this?

I'll send a link to the video later.
 
1st gen LSs can not have the fob programed by the user like the 2nd gens can.

only a dealer (or somebody with a really good scan tool) can do it.
 
The switch blade keys only work on 2003-2006, Lincoln LS, we tried on my friends 2002 Lincoln LS, and it wouldn't work, the locksmith we use said they where only made for 2003 and up.
