First gear start

How do you achieve a first gear start. 2000 LS V8

SST mode. Depress accelerator more than 60%. It will drop from 2nd to 1st.

Based on my experience with my '02 Sport w/SST, if left in D5 or D4, it would always start in 1st even on light acceleration. Only in SST was the 2nd-gear start imposed on you.
