I have been posting nothing but issues last few times about my Mark. I had it for a year and now I need to do lots of maintence and some non maintence things to it. Need a radio, all new front end (will be purchasing parts this week), my head is tapping (I am goin to try thicker oil, but eventually get a set of C heads and a 99/01 Cobra intake) last thing is my tranny, it feels like I am running over a rumble strip, in traffic it bucks, I replaced the fluid, filter and 1-2, 2-3 accumulators, helped a little bit. Well I just picked up a 2001 Mustang 4r70w with 61k on it.
Any info on installing it? Anything I should do to the trans before I install?
Thanks

Throw in a shift kit or reworked valve body!! Wouldn't hurt to put on a B&M extra capacity aluminum oil pan either! UMMMM... maybe an upgraded tranny cooler. That's all I can think of

Typically when you feel "rumbling" or like your going over train tracks, it is the TC failing. Let us know if the tranny swap solved your issue.

JMod and force-lube if needed for that year.

How are you going to install it? Pull the engine and trans combo or just do the trans with engine in place?

I am doing the J Mod and tranny cooler. I will just drop the tranny, I will hopefully be doin this at work with help from a tech so I have access to all his tools and a lift :)

shouldn't be too bad with a lift...

I need to buy a house with a huge garage or area to build one... and then put in a lift! :-)

The new tranny comes with a torque converter. I am still going to try and put a Mach 1/Maurder torque converter in there. I was goin to do just the converter but the tranny has 150k on it, the Mustang tranny has less then half that and Im getting it cheap.

Thats what I want lol. But I work for a dealer (not Ford though) and most the techs are cool with lending tools. When I worked in NJ and FL I had atleast one tech that would do ALL work for me for just lunch the next day. Here is a different story.

Geez, all I can think of as a "tip" is to break that tab off. I think its on the driver's side? You will see it. There is an aluminum tan on the bell housing right up to the engine. About and inch long or so. Gotta break that sucker off or you can get hung up on removal/installation.

Whats would be the best way to break it?
Would you recommend putting these parts into the trans?
shorter reverse servo
2.7" OVERDRIVE servo
OVERDRIVE servo return spring
Pressure control solenoid(EPC)

Channel lock should do it. I know there is a pic somewhere of it....

No clue on those servo things though...

Are you going to have to re-pin the electricals? I've heard this is required when swapping a late model trans into a Gen I. I'd really like to get some specific directions on this also because I'm thinking of upgrading mine in the future. Hey Sal, you aren't that far from me, let me know when you do it I'd like to see the ins and outs of the swap. I'm right outside of Spartanburg SC.

Just picked up the trans yesterday. There was no ear on it to break off, maybe the guy I got it from already took it off? The thing looks brand new only 60 k on. While the trans is out I am goin to replace the IAC, O2 sensors and maybe the egr.
Hemihed I will def let you know when I get ready to do the swap.
This is the diagram I will be following
