Does anyone know how long you can leave the battery disconnected and not loose the memory points that have been entered into the system.

The battery needed replacement on my wifes '07 Mountaineer recently and I thought for sure that it would loose all of the memory points we had loaded into its factory nav, but to my surprise it didn't.
Of course it was probably only disconnected for a minute or so.
This tells me that there is some sort of flash memory in the system that will hold the info for a while.

I'm assuming that the LS system does the same and if so, I wonder how long.

I want to leave my battery disconnected overnight to reset the "Adaptive Learning" part of the transmission.

Thanks.

FLASH memory is non-volatile. If the memory points are stored in FLASH, they will remain even if the battery is disconnected for years. It's RAM (usually static RAM) that will only hold for minutes to less than a second if the battery is disconnected.

I've changed the battery once on my 06, and if I remember correctly (I may not), the memory points were all retained, but the "previous destinations" were all lost.

I didn't rush to reconnect the battery, so it was probably disconnected for several minutes.

Well as you can tell, I don't know my computer lingo or definitions well. ;)

Do you the minimum length the battery needs to be disconnected to reset the transmission memory?

No, but I suspect that it is a very short amount of time, particularly if the trunk light is on, probably just a few seconds.

You will also lose the correct time on the nav system. I can't remember if the radio station presets stay or not. (I do recall that they stay on the non-nav headunit.)

Ok, I'll try it for 5 minutes and maybe increase the time a bit from there if that doesn't seem to change the transmission issue.

Worse case is that I have to re-enter them. No big deal I suppose.

Thanks Joe.

I've had the battery disconnected for over a day. All radio stations, memory/special memory points and previous destinations were still in the memory. The only thing I "lost" was the correct time. You can always go through and manually delete the previous destinations.

It's possible that I was/am confusing when I changed the battery with the time that the headunit was changed out under warranty (for CD changer jams).

You know, I had the same thing happen. I remember my memory points saved but I don't remember if the previous destinations were saved.

Well, I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes last night and the only thing that I had to re-set on the head unit was was the time.

Everything else stayed including station presets, memory points, and previous destinations.
