I have a fella get a hold of me with a 2000 LS. Here's what he sent me.

V8, not sport, tranny shifts fine. Pics will have to come tomorrow when its light.

A few weeks ago my muffler exploded.....literally. The only explanation I have been given is that someone must have shoved something into my tail pipe. While driving my exhaust backfired with enough force to put a hole in the side of the driver muffler and put a hole in the body panel next to it. (That pic is attached). I've never seen that happen before, but that's why exhaust is bad. And that causes a miss in the engine and obviously the exhaust is now loud and backfires. Was told it needs an entire exhaust system.

I will get you full car pictures as soon as I can. But I would use this as a parts car only if it was purchased.

Now it's going to the yard in a few weeks if he can't sell it. I'm guess he will get around 500?

It's got 184K on it, sounds like interior is in fair condition, plugs, coils, cooling system less then 1K on them.

He won't tell me what the yard will give him....II mean duh he wants me to over shot it.

How do you explode a muffler and most yards don't pay over 5 for cars unless they are in high demand. I would offer 1k tops if you have the desire to part out you can more than quadruple that. If you don't want to deal with a part out its not worth anything honestly.

So does anyone have any idea why this thing could have done this....and how bad that motor is?

The ONLY thing I've ever seen do that was a Nitrous Backfire while running a WOT box... It takes ALOT to blow a welded stainless muffler up.

I'd be scared

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Not in it for the motor, but it makes a huge difference in what I may offer.

we had a muffler blow up once.
the cougar was running terribly, was down half a bank for some reason, forgot to hook up the other plug wire bank or something stupid, and it filled the muffler with gas and fumes. fixed the issue, lit it up, revved it and bang. its swollen up and crumpled.

did his coils fail? is he dumping raw gas into his exhaust? cats are probably toast as well.

He said he had already put new plugs and coils in 1000 miles before it happened. The exhaust and who knows is toast.

But who knows?

I had a muffler burst. Not a full explosion like that, but popped a quarter size hole in both of 'em. My Cutlass was running really poorly on the old engine, loaded up, and popped out the exhaust. That was an interesting drive.....

1977 Ford Van 300 IL6, cold 34F raining. Experiencing consistent carb icing when driving on the highway on the way to Vermont (when I'd get out the front of the truck was covered 1/2" thick with ice). Engine starts sputtering I don't feel like stopping again so I clutch and throw it into 2nd (three on the tree) and nail it, the engine bucks hard, loud back fire and the muffler shell was peeled wide open.

I think he had bad coils and pushed it with a bad misfire.

I'm sure you are right, pushed it way too far.

Well I made an offer and haven't heard from him since.

Must not have cared for it.
