1. wife washed keyfob it no longer works even after dismantling and drying out. Bought a new one but it never worked.
2. Never had the door code and the myths of the sticker somewhere on the car are BS. Is there a way to reprogram?
3. Sometimes I leave the keys in the ignition and shut the door and find it has locked me out, is this normal?

1. Did you buy the correct generation replacement? Did you do the procedure to program it in?
2. A dealer can connect their tool and read out the factory code for you. After that, you can program personal codes into it yourself.
3. No.

I have had that happen to me once right after I bought the car.....I was lucky to grab my key while I was pumping gas....I don't leave my keys in my car unless I'm at home now.

There was an issue where if the handle snapped closed hard enough it would take the lock "handle" with it. Apparently the lock "handle" was so light it just followed the handle to the lock position. Ever since I read about this I have carried the key and remote separately.

I've done alot of research on programming the keyless remote, he would have to go to the dealer to have his code read. Otherwise he couldn't program it himself.

At least this is what I have come to understand.

He said he has a keypad, so he has a gen II. On gen II you can program in the remotes yourself, no dealer needed for that.

I can reprogram it myself once the dealer gives me the current code correct?

Almost.
You can't change the factory keypad code. However, you can add personal codes that you use instead. They don't replace the factory code, so someone could still use the factory code to get in. But, you don't have to remember the factory code to get in, you just have to remember your personal code.
You will want to write down the factory code and save it somewhere, because you will need it anytime you want to change or add any personal codes. This is all explained in your owner's manual.

Aren't we talking 2 different issues?

He would need 2 working keyfobs in order to program a 3rd one himself? (Gen 2 LS)

As for keypad programming, yes, he would need to go to the dealership to have the system read and the keypad code given. Generally 1 hour labor charge?

Yes, two different issues. But you're adding a third one in.

1. Keypad - Yes he needs the dealer to get the factory code.
2. Remotes - He has gen II and can program those himself. There is no need at all to have two working remotes!
3. Keys - You can program those yourself, but you do need two working keys to be able to add any.

Ordered another remote, looks like this one may work the last was from some fly by night outfit. The door code is 100 bucks at my dealer.

It took my car back to the salesman i bought it from when i couldn't find the card, told him to make it happen. he did...

Got the new remote and it coded right up. Whoooo hoooo. Now gotta go to the dealer and see can I get the door code without leaving an are and leg behind
