I plan on taking a 1200 mile trip this weekend in the Lincoln. My engine overheat light came on after a 3 mile drive, temp gauge was HOT. I turned the car off let it sit for 20 minutes and everything has been fine since. I do not know if I should take the Lincoln.
Any feed back?

overheating

I have a 2002 LS and I have had a problem with the vehicle showing that it is overheating for a few months. It did it a couple times then nothing for a few weeks then it started again. Let me tell you what to check: First, Top off your coolant resevoir with antifreeze. I mean fill it to where its ready to spill over. Do it while the vehicle is cool. This turned out to be my problem, I had spent hours checking everything else..the resevoir looked like it had coolant up to the line, but after I filled it to the top, I have not had ANY more instances of overheating. Secondly if the first doesn't help, replace your resevoir cap. Cheap, and could be the problem. Thirdly, check and make sure your hydraulic fan is whirling fast the next time it shows hot. If your fan isn't spinning fast, its not getting enough air flow. More than likely it would be the hydraulic fan pump causing the fan problem. If thats all ok, replace the thermostat. The only other problem I could see would be a bad Cylinder head temperature sending unit. Works your guage and other computer functions. Hope this helps.
