I drive a black/black Mark VIII with 85000 miles. Its my first Mark, I just bought it a couple of days ago. Sometime soon i was thinking that i should change my belt (its getting cracked) and replacing my spark plugs.

First what do i need to do to change the belt.

Second would it be worth it to change my spark plugs?
Thanks!

To change the belt, you need a breaker bar with a 1/2 drive. You use this to relieve the pressure on the belt by the tensioner pulley.

The spark plugs are Autolite #764.

As for whether you need to change the plugs, are they original?

yes there original. i am going to go to autozone here in about an hour to pick up some new ones. Should I stay with the same brand or is there something better i can upgrade to?

for plugs im running awsf22fm

its a fine wire iridium plug 1 heat range colder than stock

There's no reason to change to a different plug. Just stick with the autolite 764. And remember to use liberal amounts of dielectric grease when installing them and the plug wires. Also wait for the engine to cool.

I'd be sure all your fluids are flushed and cleaned, as well as new filters where appropriate. Since you didn't mention plug wires I suspect you have a Gen ll, so be carefull on the plug change and check the boots carefully for cracking. Make sure you use an anti-sieze on the threads and di-electric for boots.

Sorry yeah its a 1994, its had a transmission fluid flush, and all other fluids are ok, and installed K&N air filter so far.

Not a huge fan of the anti-seize on the threads of aluminum headed cars like our what with the change of the plug backing up and blowing out. A properly maintained Mark shouldn't have a problem with pulling the plugs if they are not overtightened (which also is bad on an aluminum head).

Same with the di-electric. Just more gunk to cake up and make things messy.

Im not a fan of boot grease at all. Looks great when ya put it on, but if you changed you plugs after using it you will see it generally dries out - I even tried stuff specifically for boots. Maybe a little helps but I think too much is a bad thing.....

im a fan of dielectric but i absolutely hate antisieze. i dont use it anywhere.
