What does this piece do? My car is at the shop right now getting a new one of these. When I bought the car back in July, I bought it knowing that it had been labeled a lemon by the state of California and Ford bought it back, refurbished the tranny and sold it with a 1 year warranty. I'm nervous now, 4 months later, that I'm gonna have on-going tranny problems.

I took it in because sometimes when i backed out of my parking spot, I'd put it into D5 and start to roll forward, then it would drop into neutral as I'm pushing the gas and then back into D5 about 1 second later. That method doesn't make for the smoothest of launches...

But I'm wondering if replacing this solenoid body will solve my issue or if they're just grabbing at straws. There never was a CEL but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't an error code somewhere...

The solenoid packs are a pain in the butt .I put 2 in my 2000 ls and lucky for me ford warrantied them .They were really expensive and I had to pay for it myself I would probably find a used tranny w/ low miles .There are a couple on e-bay for pretty good prices

well, I just picked up the car. I haven't driven it enough yet to determine if that fixed the problem or not. But since the car is a Ford Buyback, there's a 1 year warranty on the tranny so all costs were covered. Even got a loaner '07 Taurus (POS by the way) for free. Plus, now it's documented that the tranny isn't/wasn't quite right just in case I have more issues with it down the road. I did see that there's a TSB involving "hard shifts" and the fix is a new solenoid, but that seemed to only apply to '02 and earlier models. But we'll see how it works as I drive it more over the next couple of days.

Solenoid:

I am replacing mine as we speak. From what my mechanic explained to me the solenoid measures pressure and then responds accordingly. Transmission solenoid measure the pressure in the trans then intiates the gear switch, my unfortunatly sucks a*$ and will not shift into 4th or 5th so I'll get up to 4000 rpms on a normal street, that and it takes a minute to kick into reverse.

Add it to the list of major repairs
