I know a ton of us have the problem of the e-brake not working. Is there a way to fix it?

Or... there is a guy in the Mark 8 forum... Ripped Camel, he has this cool hammer that might work. :D

Mine did have the Service Parking Brake message today.. It didn't bother me though.. I just hit reset and the message went away.

There is no e-brake on the LS, it's a Parking Brake, big difference!

If you mean electronic parking brake, you don't have one on your '02. You have a "normal" pull-up-the-handle emergency/parking brake.

Yes I have a pull up handle, but it doesnt work. I pull it up and put my car in drive wihtout pressing gas it will still roll forward. Doesnt this mean it doesnt work?

Since it's a mechanical linkage I would start with the cable and see if it needs adjusting.

Not really a big difference. Car makers have stopped calling them emergency brakes for legal reasons. However, they still serve both purposes, parking brake and emergency brake.

From the gen II service manual.
"The electronic parking brake (EPB) replaces the function of the conventional hand brake lever system. The EPB has 2 functions. Its primary function is to hold the vehicle up to a 30% grade. The secondary function is to be able to decelerate the vehicle by using the EPB as an emergency brake. "
