Was going to change my oil when I noticed that one of stands I drive it up on is broken! No way to use it so now I am forced to do it the old way and that is with a jack. Dumb ? is, where do I put it, I noticed just behind the bumper, well pretty much by the radiator seems like the obvicious spot but I noticed back about I do not know, say 2ft about where the tires are is another area w/ a cross bar except its not smooth, I am sure you guys know what I mean.

Where is the best place? The first place I said has like a cover over it w/ 2 screws in it.

Jacking points...

There is a jacking point right behind the front wheel on each side on the side of the frame. Your owner's manual should point those out in the section that discusses changing a tire.

Check and I see those, just seems like a pain, I have to use two jacks. I know I could probably use one just on the drain side but that means it would not drain right unless I lowered it back down and that would just about crush the oil dump pan. Oh well, better to use those area's than break something.

The only structural piece in the front of the car that you can lift it on from the front is the crossmember under the motor.
But then you still need a set of jack stands to hold car up while you change the oil.
I put mine right under the end of the subframe on either side of the trans.
You know were those two flat bars attach to the floorpan.

A friend of mine jack his ls up that way and just puts a couple of cinder blocks under the tires, that way if the jack fails the car will only drop onto the blocks.

whatever you do, do not just use a hydraulic jack with some sort of safety measures.

Yea I used two Hydraulic jacks on the sides where you'd change the tire, was a pain because I had to jack up one at a time not very far and then during draining I had to lower 'em so the car was semi-flat and than jack back up and down. It was easy though, not as easy as just driving it up on the stand but I guess I well be doing this for awhile.

I seriously hate oil changes, not cause they are hard, very straight forward but I am always afraid if I put the plug in to tight or the filter lol and check it for like 2 days afterward to see if there are any leaks. Knock on wood though there is never any.

I change my oil in the driveway where there is a decline and drive up on two plastic ramps ($35 autozone) pretty easy that way. no need to jack up.

It bears repeating for the new guys (and gals): do NOT jack the LS up by any of its suspension pieces unless it's a matter of life and death. There are a handful of lifting points under the LS, and none of them are control arms or ball joints or steering knuckles. (This is important enough that Lincoln has it no less than twice in the service manual.)

If you want to know why, do a search; it has been covered before.

Right, that was why I specifically stated that I slide the jack under the front crossmember and then put my stands under the subframe-to-floorpan mounting point.
