Please forgive me for asking this, but where exactly is the oil drain plug and oil filter on my 2005 LS V8?

The only other vehicle I've ever changed the oil on myself (also the only other vehicle I've ever owned) is my lifted S-10, which is pretty easy since you can get under there and look hahah.

Thanks,

Tyler

if gen 2 is the same as gen 1 then it's right there on the bottom pan under the car facing the rear of the vehicle. the filter is down there as well and on my gen1 it's somewhat of a pain to get in there to turn it but they have those tools for sale at parts stores that make it easier to remove. hope this helps

Yeah, they should both be in plain view. I've never looked, since I never change the oil myself, but I can't imagine there is a lot of places to hide a drain plug :)

The plug is on the rear part of the oil pan, passenger side sitting at an angle. The oil filter you can't miss when you get under there. It's plain sight, under and behind the lower grille.

Thanks for the help, it is very obvious once you get under there, I just didn't want to have to search under a hot car when it's almost 100 degrees outside.

And everything went smoothly, i can't imagine paying someone to change my oil, it's one bolt, a filter a bucket and 25 minutes haha.

It's not the actual work. It's disposing of the old oil for me. I hate putting that 5 gallon can of oil in my trunk to take it to a disposal site.

I have fuel oil heat and just add it to the 550 gal tank and burn it in the winter.

under 5!? Take a video next time. :D

I would but my camera can't film for that long. :p I need a new one anyway but I have other things at the top of my "stuff to buy in the near future" list. Like tires...

See the trick is to have about a 3 foot long catch pan. Raise the car, slide the pan under it so that you can drain the pan and the filter at the same time. Pop off the drain plug, then pop the filter off right away. The oil from the filter drains out almost immediately, so while the pan is still draining you clean up the sealing surface for the filter and go ahead and pre-fill the new one (helps build oil pressure on the first start) then spin it on. The pan should be just dribbling by that point so you can go ahead and clean up your drain plug and pop that back on. Then all you have left is to dump a gallon and a half of fresh oil into the engine using biggest funnel you can find.
