go to a dealership (i know i know, everyone hates dealers) and ask for a DPFE sensor, it looks at exhaust back psi to see if the egr is opening up, only prob is a little exhaust flows through it and the condensation causes the sensor to go bad. it should be around $50 and its a 3 second job, lets see if i can find a diagram..........
wow i stand corrected! apparently Lincoln hates the ls v6 wow this thing is buried

damn pics dont come up, well when you go to the dealer, just tell them what your car is and that its the "bolt on style" DPFE, and might as well get the hoses while your there, doesnt sound fun and i would recommend replacing them now. you might be able to sneak in there and change it without pulling the cowl (thing under your wiper arms) its a plastic rectangle with 2 hoses running out the bottom and a gray 3 pin oval connector running out the side, some older ones were metal but same shape and are replaced with the newer plastic style. ford has SSM's (Special Service Messages) out for codes po401, po402, po403 i dont remember how high they go, but any egr flow code ford says to replace the DPFE first! i only saw 1 that the sensor didnt fix, and it was because a mouse ate through the wire elsewhere in the harness
