Anyone using the K&N 33-2266 drop-in filter and what are the pros and cons?

I ran the drop in K&N filter for quite some time until I went with the KKM Tru-Rev Sport Induction Kit. For the money and performance I'd go with the KKM instead.

I used K&N drop in filter before K&N FIPK; 2 to 3 hp increase, throaty sound, would cost the same as 3 OEM filters for longer life. No real down side except, for me put the $ (<> $40) toward the CAI and save the middle step up. K&N FIPK on a 2 gen LS is a 15.69 hp gain for <>$270 and even move incredible sound and performance.

For a vendor check out:

Ken, did you run the KKM on your 2001 LS? If so what was the difference compared to the stock one? Are they truely woth while? Also did you use the tube that you get separartely? I would like to know what the true (approx) HP gain is, if anybody knows. KKM website doesn't really say.

I ran the KKM induction kit along with the stainless steel intake tube. We estimated the increase in HP at around 15 HP but since we did not dyno the car without the Magnaflow exhaust system we only estimate the increase. According to Magnaflow's website they dyno'd their exhaust system on an LS and it resulted in 11 HP and 10 lb-ft of torque gain.

We also dyno'd my 2001 LS that had the KKM, stainless steel intake tube and Magnaflow exhaust system against a stock 2003 Lincoln LS. My LS pulled 218.2 HP and 233.9 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. The stock 2003 LS pulled 217.3 HP and 238.6 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. So, by adding the KKM, stainless steel intake tube and Magnaflow exhaust system to my 2001 LS my car out performed a stock 2003 LS. This means my 2001 LS made up the 28 HP difference from an 00-02 LS vs. 03+ LS. Remember, a stock 00-02 LS rated 252 HP at the crank and a stock 03+ LS rated 280 HP at the crank.

These bolt on performance items do work and the dyno numbers tell the tale. You can view the dyno sheets below.

Thanks for the info. I have been tossing the idea of the magnaflow exhaust up, but i do not really want a loud, red-neck sounding exhaust on a luxury car. From what I have heard it isn't red-neck at all, but I want to be sure before I invest that kind of money. I want something with some throaty growl when I get on it but not a whole lot at idle. How did yours sound? Any suggestions from people who have the Magnaflow system? I have been to youtube but the videos are hard to tell from because of micing issues ect...

I personally didn't like the sound of the Magnaflow. I wanted more of a growl or a rumble, but the Magnaflow is more like a deep hum (kinda like a rice burner, but you can tell it's a v8). I changed the Magnaflow mufflers for Flowmaster 40 series and it sounds great now.

The Magnaflow will not be loud at all. It is a very controlled and low note type of exhaust. I have to disagree that it sounds like a "rice burner".
