This is my first season using D/R's and I have the Nitto's. I have not had a chance to form my own opinion of them but just about everything I have read or picked up from this board is that the Nitto's work better on the street and the M/T's hook up better on the track. I purchased the Nitto's from an oval track racer who used them on his T-Bird and he liked them just for that reason, they lasted a little longer than anything else he had used. There are a couple of different compounds used on the Nitto, 555R and 555R-2 is what I have. I think the 555's have a little softer sidewall to help with launching. My front tires are Nitto 555R2 275/40x17 Drag Radials. The rear tires are Nitto 555R 315/35x17 Drag Radials. You can see how the front spindles were slightly modified to accommodate the width of the front wheel in my April 1st. post of this thread http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=40457
The wide tires on the front are detrimental for drag racing but, I just can't help liking the aggressive look of them. My car handles like a go-kart on the street, I have to keep myself in check from taking corners faster than I should
Good luck with your quest.
Read this, I worked on the developement of the BFG drag TA's in the NOPI series and they work great. Yea its a Ricer but its RWD and goes 8:82 @ 160 mph on DOT radials. http://ndra.nopi.com/2006/kd_dsp_art_detail.cfm?vaid=54
