Since I bought my LS my dash is always reporting an open door somewhere despite all doors being closed. The only probable cause I could see is the sunroof as it is stuck and off track. Is there a scanner of some sort I can use that'll direct me to which "door" is open? Thanks.

It's not the moon roof. It's not counted as a door. Having it open on either of mine certainly doesn't trigger a door (or any other) warning.

You can rule out the driver's door via the key in chime. With the key in but turned off, do you get the chime all the time, or only with the driver's door open? If the latter, then it's not the driver's door.

According to the wiring diagrams, door ajar is indicated if the ajar switch is open or if the wire to it is open (cut or disconnected). Grounding each of the door ajar signals causes the door to be indicated as closed. I can get you the wire colors to check, but I don't recall if you have gen I or gen II?

The door ajar switches are inside the door latch assemblies with the door lock motors.

The door only chimes when the door is opened, so that rules out the drivers side. It's funny since all lights turn off on the interior, but the dash is the only thing that reports something is opened. I have a Gen 1 2000 v6. I'd love to take a look at those wiring diagrams.

Check the trunk and hood pins

do you know the location of those?

Very easy to find.. Drivers side right in front of the shock tower in the engine compartment.. Looks like a little plunger with a ribbed gasket on it.. If you cant find it, I'll go take a pic for you...

Trunk is the same exact plunger just outside of the carpet line on the decklid. I believe it is also towards the drivers side.. just unplug them.

ah yes. i've seen them many times before. I'll have a closer look at them tomorrow. thanks!. Hey joe, still post the wiring diagram please.

The trunk has a little rubber plunger on the lower, left side facing down. The hood switch is on the left fender. Once you see one the other will be obvious. When you lock the car with the fob do you get one or two confirmation beeps?

i'm just glad the interior doors are ruled out (for now), less work. :D I'll definitely inspect the trunk's wiring thoroughly.

The switch may just be misadjusted, or the trim piece that it presses against may be missing. Start by pushing the switch in while watching the light.

Will do. So the LS is supposed to have a single beep when locking with the fob?

Real quick on keyfob beep deal...
My Gen2 is silent on lock, but if you immediately press it again you get 1 beep.

Normal function?

yep same here. one click locks, second click chirps to confirm lock.

I don't think so. It's hard to tell what's going on with the message center setup the way it is on the v6.

As explained in the OM: Press once to lock, second press is either one or two beeps. One beep confirms all "entry points" are secure. Two beeps mean something isn't closed properly. Beeps are actually horn "beeps".

The trunk has its own dash warning doesn't it?

Only through the message center, which is absent on the V6.

The V6, IIRC, shows a red car symbol with a door (or more) open.

Yup. Just an icon of a car illuminated in red. It dosent tell you specifically which door unlike the message center in the v8.

Lock the car with the trunk open. Look at the signal lights when you close it if they shine once it's good if they don't is the trunk

i would bet the trunk as others have stated. the plastic rest plate is a major culprit.

i have had this same issue (on an 05v6). i went as far as replacing the trunk switch for like $15-20, dont do that. i believe the issue is tied to high humidity in the trunk compartment. my solution is usually to run the dog sht out of the defroster. at least every other day, and especially on a rainy day. Also make sure you have a sealed battery, and have the vent hose connected properly. Also, I would refrain from storing bottled water and other liquids in the trunk as that contributes to the humidity. someone smarter than me could probably figure out a way to make that switch more resistant to humidity...

as a general rule of thumb you should probably run your defroster for a min or two before exiting the vehicle if there is fog on the windows.
