don't use 9005's in your foglights

hey i know this is a old post but the same thing just happened to me on the passanger side fog light, beaups what did you do to fix it or did you just buy a new one and for how much and where.

haven't fixed it yet. I'm going to do an LSE upgrade soon so I didn't bother. I'm pretty sure Ken sells them on his website and they are pretty reasonable.

This was a strange topic for me since nobody seemed to believe me lol. At any rate, I think it's safe to say if you are running an 03-05 LS with the square foglights you should not put 9005 silver stars in them....

well i did put check the fog light and fond some water around the bulb so it may be that water or moisture got in some how, since i wasnt the one who put in the 9005 i dont know how tight it was, i checked the one that was not damaged and it was hell of lot tighter than the one that burned out..

I don't see how moisture getting IN will melt the lens?

I just installed the new All-weather Fog bulbs from LSkoncepts. Cool man, some red, yellow and blue lights, I thought I was tripping when I first looked at them. But they put out mostly a yellow glow..(beam) Thanks Ken!!

hey I've had the 9005's from hoen in since 2004 and no issues.
Oh and I use them a lot.

I think the moisture gets in and then creates steam from the hot light bulb. Then the steam builds up hot pressure and melts the lense. I've ran 9005 wagner lazer blues in my 03 for about 6 or 7 months and have not had any problems except for the one that wasn't completly seated. I believe you Beaups because it happened to me, but I don't think its from the temp of the bulb.

I'm just thinking of the physics. I think If anything the moisture would help it prevent melting the bulb. I would think that Air would both expand more and get hotter than an air/vapor mix.

I don't remeber my physics but 100 degee dry wheather vs 100 degree with 80% humdity feels alot hotter and makes it harder the breath. Could this apply to our situation? Are you certain that the bulb was seated in your fog light? After I completly seated mine the melting stopped and the drivers side never has melted. Maybe the plastic on the passenger side is made different? I'm just throwing some ideas out there.

I replaced all my Sylvaina Silverstars with Hoen Xeonmatch from Ken, I also replaced the fogs with the All-weather bulbs. Hense, SilverStars for sale: cheap! High, Low and Fogs pm me if interested.

i managed to the get stealership to replace the fog lamp, luckily i still had my old bulbs so i was like, I DUNNO WA HAPPEN IT JUST BURNED, so its covered under warrenty, they order the part so it should be comming in shortly

i have the 9005 and 9006 silverstar ultra's. the 9005 i use for my fogs and haven't had any problems. i'm willing to swap my 9005 ultra's for some reg silverstar's. the ultra's go for 50 bucks. i like the blue look, while the ultra are super-bright, and for really long distance. pm if interested

Been using Silverstar 9005's in the fogs in an '05 for a year now, use them a lot (not a daytime runner of them though) and yes I'm a clean fanatic so I wipe down the car everytime I drive it, meaning I see the lights everytime I drive it and there are no issues with the fogs and these bulbs. They work well enough that I'd put a new pair or fogs in annually even if they did damage them.....which they haven't......

Example, they practically double the useful light on low beam, I don't run my fogs in any of my cars unless there's no one approaching from opposite direction. If someone comes from the other direction and has their fogs on, I turn mine on, they frequently hit me with their high beams at that point. They do work well...... :-)
