Ok, So i want to get a grille with the following ..

Chrome surround and the grille itself painted Midnight Gray Clearcoat metallic, now, is that the LSE type grille?

No the LSE Grill is painted surround and chrome waterfall, if I'm reading correctly this is the opposite of what you're looking for.

For what you want, you're going to have to get the stock grille custom painted. but it might look sweet. Maybe I'll play with it in photoshop when I get home and will post a pic. maybe.

Get an '03+ grille and have the center painted the color you want.

Ok, i made up my mind, I'm getting the LSE grille, will it fit the first gen LS? I'm going to get it off LSkoncepts.
