Got the kooks headers all hooked up to the rest of the system. We took out the third cat and mated the new high flow cats directly to a 2 in 2 out magnaflow. It sounds good but to raspy?? (hard to explaine) not as deep as i would like. Its all 2.5 inch manderal bent from headers back. I think I sounded better before the headers. Was the 3rd cat acting like an X pipe? I will post a sound bite for you guys to hear soon. Thanks, Tom

yes.. been there done that.
TRUE duals sound and perform like crap

I'm crushed. I thought that a system w/ true duals, x pipes and 2 1/2 " pipes was the performance and sound way to go ? The LMS system was what I had in mind. It both looks and sounds awesome. Is it possibly just personal taste ie sound etc. is what it comes down to ? Anyone else have opinions on single vs. dual ?

yeah I thought my muffler would act as an X pipe. I dont think it is. that is the problem. I dont think an X pipe will hurt it, do you?

Is the 2 in/out a muffler?

I don't have headers, but a true dual w/magnaflow 2 in/out 3rd cat and magnaflow 40 mufflers. Not as throaty at idle as I want, but sounds good at WOT. I think I'll try these next - http://supercoupeperformance.com/partBrowser.aspx?partId=335 I heard a couple clip's of those and like it. No mufflers sounds like every 4wd pick-up on the road.

It's not like the old days when it was Hookers or Headmans w/Thrush Turbo Thrusts. :D

X pipe is a must.....

+1

when I did my 95's exhaust the first time I did a 2.5 inch true dual with no crossover.
The car didn't pick up anything at the track, it was still MIRED in the low 15's.

I put an H pipe in as a test and instantly picked up .3 in the 1/4 and ran my first 14.99 pass.

Then I rebuilt the entire system using an Xpipe and the car ran into the 14.60's or .70's..

+1 for the Xpipe or ANY crossover configuration (Hpipe)

I have the same setup but stock cats and no headers. Im thinking about removing my muffler and just putting an x in place of it to louden it up a bit.

How? Too loud? Too raspy? Or just not your taste? what set up did they have after the headers? I am trying to create the ultimate set-up through trial and error.
it sounds like you're hearing every cylinder fire, kind of machinegunnish at idle ,I heard driller's at Carlisle last year. It's not bad, I'd just rather keep the sound I have. I would recommend a fairly quiet set of mufflers though.

yes, it sounds about $60 better:) sorry, the marks I've heard with headers all sounded a little funky.

Sonds better, less drone. Excellent exotic note.

Marks with headers do for some reason sound flat out odd. Almost beyond raspy. I remember hearing Joe's vid laying rubber in the rain and it sounded strange.
Someone has that vid on here I have seen it before.

i have the third cat removed and in its place the 2 - 2 out magnaflow SS... I love the sound - I wish it was a bit louder though... But before that it was just true duals no third cat, sounded like a harley - and it didn't feel any faster. Once we put in the muffler, it quieted it up crazy. And I noticed some more torque.

That's how I roll. 2.5,x-pipe, gutted cats. YouTube - Mark VIII Practice for Carlisle 2008

thats how I would like my mark to sound. Should have just went with an xpipe instead of the magnaflow 2-2. It quieted the exhaust so much. But I was use to wayyy louder exhaust than that video, so it was kinda dissapoining when it go so quiet. I kind of like being able to be stealthy if need be though...
