this is for an 05 v6, you may be able to replicate with other yrs/engines, i dont know.

call your local yard with an LS alternator listed. ask them if the alt has a motorcraft sticker on it. when they come back and say 'no it doesnt', you just bought yourself a ton of negotiation room bc its assumed its not oem. the oem alt doesnt have a motorcraft sticker. its a denso, so it has a denso sticker only. if it has the denso sticker buy it if its cheap (i got one for $40 in working op) since the general consensus is that you only want an oem alt due to the regulator issues with the non-oem's. rebuild it for ~$125-$150 at your local alt shop. save $$. i was seeing the 'motorcraft' rebuilds going for $375plus from ford/oreilly/etc

Yeah, I intend to do this but have the alternator ship re-work it for a little higher amperage. Unfortunately there aren't many Gen2 V8 LS' in the yards around here. Most seem to be Gen1.

did you check this: car-part.com
i just went to the page that listed lowest prices on a genII v8 and saw a handful in SC/NC/VA for ~$30. granted that isnt local but shipping shouldnt kill it. i would guess youre looking at $45 tops
