Ok heres the problem, I dont know what happened to my dash where my status, fuel, reset, setup buttons are. I believe one of the clips broke that holds the button in place.Where would I be able to get this fixed or how? it just pushed back in as if only one side has backing while the other is not holding on to anything.
thanks in advance

You need to get the whole top trim pice for the center stack it come with the buttons and A/C vents. Don't know how much it cost tho was covered by warranty.

same thing happened to me, i got a 60 second epoxy from the hardware store and glued it back, i went to ford and priced that part and they wanted over $200

I MESSED UP, DONT DO WHAT I DID AND USE SUPERGLUE, IT WILL RUN and glue ur buttons in place. That was a pain to fix and i still have dried superglue stains on my buttons.

yea i broke mine and used gorilla glue to fix it. Just clamp it w/ some duct tape for an hour or so and it will be good as new. That gorilla glue is pretty strong, kinda like a gorilla.

+1

Had the same problem; get epoxy made for plastic. It'll come in a twin tube syringe; squeeze out equal amounts, mix, and apply with a tooth-pick. Get some into the joint and spread a little around the break. Should be all set!

man 200$ theres no place where i can just buy the lil clip that holds it in place some where? I do not want to glue anything on the dash.

This just happened to yesterday as I was coming home. Lucky me, I had some Gorilla Glue and tape. Took 5-10 min. to apply, about 2 hours to harden, and just popped it back in.

By the way BYRD, it is not noticeable if it is glued. The way mine broke, the two pieces that receive the screws from the button panel cracked, and since those two pieces are connected to that whole center piece, all of it needs to be replaced.

I say try it, you got nothing to loose, money to save. And if you don't like it, THEN shell out the couple hundred bucks for a new piece.

glue...

What about the old junk yard?
That'd be my first try for cheap parts like that.BUt the glue thing will work.
"Pretty strong , kinda like a gorrila."...That was my first good laugh of the day! Good one big Papp.Very funny.

i see from replies that this is a very common problem as it also happened to me, lol. i did the same thing as the rest and glued that sucker back. i asked for the part with the woodgrain and it cost more than 200. it was tempting but then i have a aftermarket stereo and the panel around it is plain black and that can't have woodgrain so i said forget it. i didn't want a miss-match in the center so oh well, stays as is

I'm pretty sure you can just use a small flat head screwdriver and carefully pull that top vent piece out. It is just snuggly fitted in there. The status button panel is clipped in from behind but there should be enough slack to easily disconnect.
From there, I you should be able to see what piece is broken.

searching does work!!!!!! (sometimes :shifty:). My buttons broke a couple days ago. Was scared at first but the whole top section does pop out just apply pressure at the bottom corners then pull it out. Going to get some epoxy tomorrow. Gotta love this site.

Damn this is an old thread, haha. So Gen-I's have the buttons there below the vents also? What color is your interior and the year of your LS? I saw a Gen-I LS the other day at a salvage yard. I'm not sure if the buttons you need are still in the car, but if they are and they're the right color, I could see if I could pick it up and ship it for you.

+100 this is probably the best way to repair (other than replacing of course)

there is no clips to buy, the part of the plastic trim around the buttons where the screws that hold the buttons in gets brittle and falls apart (take it apart and you will see what im talking about)

I do not want to glue anything on the dash.
its not on the dash, its one of the plastic part that come out, you can always try it and then if you dont like it, then replace it, but ive had mine epoxied for two yeas now and there is no way to tell that its not factory

just happened to me. how did you guys go about getting behind the buttons?
the panel just "pops" right out if you pull it straight toward the back seat, use something like a butter knife to pry it out.

BTW this is also the exact same thing that happens to the traction control/Advance track button (for the people that use the button regularly)

and the exact same procedure should be used

60 second epoxy works great, but if you have never used epoxy before, you might want to try 5 minute epoxy, it gives you a little more time to work.

or just use a couple of dots of hot glue to hold the buttons in place right where they need to go THEN use the 60 second epoxy, just be careful, as mentioned above, not to get any on the buttons themselves

$200 part, no thank you, i"ll take the $4 epoxy every day!

Vents/buttons are black. If you happen to stop by if you see the splash shield that covers the bottom of the engine and the front valance it would be much appreciated.

I'll check out whats left, but last time I was there the entire front clip was removed along with the engine. let me no if you can think of anything else. Cmack
