has anyone figured out a way to tap into the suspension diognostic plug under the hood and get it to work.. looks like a ford OBD1 connector port???

Someone with electronics background probably could fix that easily, I've seen the inside of mine and they aren't very complicated. I still wouldn't pay much for it though in case its not an easy fix...

That eBay diag tool is for ODBI, won't work on 96 or up FOMOCO cars.

You can use the plug to run the self test with a test light, or if you're very careful, you can just use a peice of wire. See here at the bottom:

SWEET!! it says you can use an EEC-IV code scanner!! thats just a ford OBD 1 reader!! i got one!! SWEET!! you guys can buy one, there only like 20 bucks or so at autozone...

They retail about $2800+ for the master kit, I've seen used ones on eBay for 600-1000k dpending what they have...
