OK I know it's the MK8 board but I ned some advice faster than it may come on the other board. My wife drives our 01 Crown Vic and the other day she was saying that the face of the Auto Climate control was hot to the touch, and that the fan would not stay running on high in the manual high position. Could it be the Climate unit itself @ 600 bucks, the fan motor control under the hood, or possibly the lighting control unit (because its getting the funny flashing turn signal thing too) I tried Crown Vic .net but it hasen't varifed my user info yet to be able to post.

If it's the Climate unit in the dash can I use just about any unit that looks the same from a Gen 2 MK8, Continental, Tarrus etc. that I can be had on E-bay for under 100 bucks or do I have to have the one the dealer is giving me the PN for?

Thanks

Chuck

I wouldn't worry about the face of this climate control being hot to the touch.... ever Vic I've ridden in, manual or auto climate control the face has gotten hot on.

I'm sure that more than just the Vic unit works.... but I don't personally know the interchange. Derek on CVN will know... he is a member here too, he has the black 95 LSC with the body kit...

tHE TURN SIGNAL PROBLEM IS MORE THEN LIKELY THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH (stalk) (sry caps). Had that problem in my marquis.

..

On my first gen it was the only heat in the car for the last year or so I owned it..(lol)

KustomizingKid has already waded thru and filtered out the BS from over there, so he'll probably be your best source of information.

not downing CV.net at all, it's just that in order to get good information your gonna have to wade through a fair amount of BS.
KINDA like the mark8 boards..

Since you've already waded into the BS no need to wade into another pool of BS.

KK will get you the info you seek

How's that for chunking you right under the bus KK?
HAHA

Thanks Tommy.... Like I already said Derek (dRock96Marquis) is one of the only people who knows what he is talking about.... He can answer any question about anything when it comes to Panthers.

I was just saying if his turn signals are acting funny it could be his mfs. Unless im completly lost?

I was thinking the lighting control module

Not sure of your exact prob but when i had a prob with my turn signals it was the mfs. Really easy to replace.

The lcm controls alot but i really dont think thats the prob.

If your car was an 03 I would be right with your LCM being bad.... but I don't think that is the issue here.

a better description of this would help too. the "multifukkedup switch" (mfs) is always a possibility on any ford product

This is what lead me to think it might be the LCM

mfs ain't much a discription either

Erratic Turn Signals:

A few crown vic owners have reported the turn signals flashing very fast at random points in time when the climate control unit fan speed is set on "high". Is typically no set pattern to the behaviour, but it appears to occur at the greatest frequency when the vehicle is driven in stop and go traffic. I had seen this behaviour on my 98' police interceptor a couple times, but after replacing the wornout blower motor the problem started occuring almost every time I drove the vehicle and had the blower motor set on high. Further investigation revealed that I was getting close to a 2V voltage drop between the alternator output stud and some of the devices inside the car after the ignition switch when the blower motor was set on high.

Suspecting that the erratic turn signals were caused by too low of a voltage getting the multifunction switch and other ignition switched components, I decided to rewire my vehicle to test the theory. My police interceptor has two police power leads, one always hot, the other hot when the key is in the run or acc positions. First I removed the climate control head from the dash, then cut the BR/O wire in two on the back. Took one of the coil wires of a generic 30amp SPST relay and hooked it to ground, hooked the other coil wire to the BR/O wire coming out of the dash harness. Connected one terminal of the relay contacts to the constant hot police power lead and the other to the BR/O wire that ran into the climate control head. Had now reduced the load for the blower motor that flows through the ignition switch from over 20Amps to around 0.2Amps. Turn signals behave normally now. The sporadic problem of only the left turn signal indicator, not the right flashing when I engaged the hazard flashers had also corrected itself.

Alternatively, some people have reported successfully restoring a normal blinking rate to their turn signals by wiring another turn signal bulb and socket in parallel with one of the existing bulbs.

mfs is Multi Function Switch (as kid stated above) aka turn signal switch, they are a big problem with all mid 90's+ ford vehicles. is yours doing exactly what you posted above? or is it just that sometimes the signals flash fast or dont work at all. ive only replaced 1 LCM in a vic EVER and it was cuz the headlights would eventually turn off, nothing with the signals.
try this, when the signals go "funky" (flash fast, no flash, whatever) first try pushing the switch up lightly and see it they work normally then when the switch is in full position they flash odd again, the switch is bad, also try turning the hazards on and off very fast a few times, then see if its ok, also bad switch. its usually either the wires right where the stalk comes out at are broken or the contacts on the hazard switch are shot. ive done the switch vs the LCM 1000000 to 1

When they screw up they always flash fast, I'll try moving the switch around next time and see if that is it, thanks
