would changing the paint color of your car affect its resell value or ruin the car in a general way? i plan on having the car at least another 4yrs (whats left of my loan) and i know the resell value of the ls is not great. I bought the car with the gold/tan color but would like to change it to black or really dark green. I took this model as it was the only ls on the lot and jumped on the chance to own a LS (been a fan since 2000). I'd like to start customizing it to make it my own now.

depends on your market.... if you try selling it to general population, stick to normal paints....

It can go both ways. If it turns out to be a :q:q:q:qty job bye bye cash spent.

I also agree with it depends on the market.

How ever if done right just like cleaning your car before trying to sell it it could make you a extra buck but I doubt unless you sell privately you'll even get back what you put into the paint job do to the fact most places charge lots of extra to go the mile and do the door frames and door jams or what have you.

a complete recolor involves pulling the entire motor

I wasnt even thinking about that.

The best way to do it is to just do a fresh job with the same color or you'll never make back the cost of paint.

Try going with this paintjob and you'll double your equity!

well i'm not a total fan of that two tone black and white job, but i'd go for painting the silver strips on the bumper. about the only thing i don't like about the exterior of the car.

anyone else do something to do away with the silver markings?

Going to be $$$ for a good job. Prep is the single most important part of a paintjob and that is especially the case for a color change.

If you do paint it a different color make sure they paint the inside of the doors, trunk and hood. Like spully said though, unless you gut the engine compartment you are gonna have tan paint in there. Don't do a macco job whatever you do. Or how about this save your money sell your Ls and combine the money and buy one in a color you like better.
