I have a weird problem with my 98 MarkVIII. The compass seems to work, except that it reads the exact opposite of the way I am going. If I am heading northeast, it reads southwest. If I head west it reads east, etc. Basically its just 180 degrees off from the actual bearing. Has anyone ever had this happen before, and if so, how do you fix it? Thanks.

Mike

I'd start first by recalibrating the compass. Instructions are in the owners manual or you can look it up on here. pg. 23

Where did the car originaly come from?

When i first bought mine the compass didn't work. Ends up someone disconnected the harness on the rearveiw mirror. I LOVE easy fixes.

The car was owned by an old man who used to drive it back and forth to florida and back. I don't have the original owner's manual, but I do have a photocopy of it, so I will try recalibrating it tomorrow. I just thought that usually when the calibration is out, it will be off by a little bit, not read exactly opposite.

i could never get mine right,it was always 180 degrees off when i did the circle slowly to calibrate,i finally got a real compass ,faced north, and manually told it that was north,it has now been fine for over 2 years
