what would it take to get a 96 mark 8 to the 320hp mark that the 99 cobras make ? does the superchips flashpaq, or any other tuner help much ? thanks guys

Cobra intake manifold, decent exhaust, and a tune would get you the 320 crank hp rating...

BUT that is crank horsepower.. Remember the mark looses a little more hp through the drivetrain since it is sooooo long..

Also the mark is roughly 300-400 lbs more than a cobra if i remember correctly..

cobra intake swap, 4.10's, and a high stall with a tune (SCT Xcal2 is great) should get you into the 13's or really close.. more mods like nitrous or Supercharger would get into the 12's or 11's

Go a few threads down to the one about mike running a 11.3.. he has one of the fastest, if not THE FASTEST mark around.. he has lots of videos on streetfire.

i thought the gen 1 intake was as efficient as the cobra intake, the cobra intake just made it easier to use a supercharger ??

Gen 1 intake is good for low and especially mid range horsepower and torque while the Cobra intake is better for upper rpm power. The Cobra intake is far superior for drag racing especially if you have gears and/or high stall converter.

is it really worth the $700 - $800 that it costs to get one and get it all hooked up ?

You can pick one up for a lot cheaper than that... as far as is it worth it... I think 98CobraStar's results speak for themselves.

make sure your fluids, plugs/wires r in good shape before moding. imo, start with trac-lok w/4:10's or 4:30's, exhaust, intake if you feel the need (stock is good from the factory but can't hurt) , and a tune/chip. Want to do the tuneing last to get all the power out of your mods if i remember correctly.

From reading, the cobra intake is not worth the money. But if you actually have some of that to throw around i'd say do it. f the economy. f not haveing a job!

im trying to help the economy by still spending money when i can. its when you stop spending money that companies go out of business and the economy gets worse

If you are looking to spend money, start at the rear of the car and work forward. Gears, DS, Tranny mods, TC, etc.

The cobra intake really isn't a good mod until you have everything to support it...

A heavy car with an automatic trans needs low end power not top end...

I would do a tune, gears, stall, tires, and nitrous before the intake...

+1 except the nitrous. If that's your thing fine but 4.10s/4.30s and a stall will more them make yo for what you lose on the low end with a Cobra intake. I will be going with a short runner Cobra down the road.

You won't lose any low end going from a gen 2 intake to a Cobra.

The only reason I say nitrous first is that in the scheme of going fast I don't think the cobra intake would really show big gains until a power adder is involved...

Someone showed I think almost 30hp with a short runner Cobra. I forgot who it was but they posted before and after dyno numbers.

I don't doubt there is a gain... just depends on where the gain is and how it affects the car in the real world.

The peak gains should be in the upper rpms with a good chance of higher the peak gains further up the rpm range. We both agree gears and a TC should come first so the car should be able to really use what you get out of it.

I'm sure it can... it just isn't on my mod list at this time!

After I have my gears and stall on the car nitrous will come next, I don't know of anything else that will shave more time off that that!

Roughly how much power is lost in the drive train I have 3:27 gears

About 20-22% is lost through the 4r70w and then the IRS as well.

That was me.. go to my threads on my profile.. It's not so much the numbers since i was using a brand new dyno that was not calibrated, but a mostly stock 1998 LSC right before i dyno'd made 203whp/206wtq.. so i made about 42 extra wheeled hp.. and about 39lb/ft or torque.. mods are in the signature.. it pulls great in lower range.. i would say better than stock. but the upper rpms, it keeps making power all the way to 7000rpm. it might even keep pulling to around 7500 with the short runner i am running but i am stopping at 7k for now..

For me the 3800 Stall with lockout will be next.
