Has anyone else noticed, that even after searching, the cobra brake conversion threads are extremely vauge? Beyond buying an overpriced kit from one of the vendors, there isn't a decent thread with what had to be modified or swapped. I'm not really one that cares that the calipers say ford or cobra or whatever, I can just buy the OE style replacement parts for one from a local vendor, but I can't seem to find a thread saying what needs to be modified to work. I have seen that the passenger side apparently need some grinding to work (with mach1 calipers) but thats about it. I just did the hub swap so I already have the rears the way I want them but the fronts need to be modded.

Or can anyone seemingly use the search feature better than me? I searched for; Cobra brakes; cobra brake conversion; cobra calipers; and pretty well came up with nothing:mad:

Actually, I meant on our forums a decent thread here. But, thats a great thread. I don't get over there much, but I'm glad we now have a good link to it here in one of our threads.

Thanks

its pretty straight forward, you take your calipers off put on the rotors and bolt the cobra calipers on, the passenger side needs to be ground down to get the brake line to mount flush. I was worried about that before I started... got out my grinder and was done in 15 mins. Easy swap and by far my favorite mod on my car.

I couldn't find much here either, and I knew I had seen it on there before....so I passed it along to you.

You're a saint bro, all i have to do is locate the calipers i want now. $298 on ebay + shipping

the ladenblowfish link above is great.I used it and everything worked as in the writeup.I am not sure if this the same for all years, the brake hose will work but you will have grind them a little where they bolt to the caliper.if you use the 10 th aniv.calipers you can use stock banjo bolts.Hope this helps

not to highjack , but ,

Is this the same for us who have the stock mark bolt pattern? appart from getting the wholes redrilled on the cobra rotors, and grinding down the passenger side. Is that all that is required?

You can also use cobra calipers on stock front rotors IIRC. You need to drill and tap the mounting bracket .7" from the stock location on the cobra bracket and mill off some of the lip and there you have it.

These were on my Taurus SHO with 11.6 rotors. Since the rotors share the same bolt pattern and approximate size this should work on Mark 8s with a bit of modification.

But I found them at carquest for 89.99 each, loaded with pads and mounts. The rotors were 38 bucks each, and I got the banjo bolts from mustang parts specialties for 32 bucks (they made me buy the lines from the cobra as well, dammmit)

All in all it was easy, hardest part was finding the right banjo bolt. I tried several from locals, but they were all about 1/4 short.
