I have this clunk when I back up and turn the wheel. It doesn't happen backing up straight, it doesn't happen when sitting still and turning the wheel. It doesn't seem to happen in drive. Any ideas what it might be? Haven't been under there yet, but most parts under there are "newish", i.e., upper control arms, lower control arms, rack and pinion (reman A1), sway bar links, strut rod bushings at the control arm. Does this sound like a symptom of the strut rod bushings at the frame?

my 93 did the same thing.
i replaced the lower ball joints last saturday with Moog Problem solvers and viola, super smooth now. no clunking or moaning -groaning or squeaking. but it could be the bushings aforementioned too.

Does it ever feel like it's slidin on gravel when your reverse and turn, even if on pavement ?
Strut rods

Turns out it is the inner tie rod. I have a rebuilt cardone rack. Is the tie rod end replacement procedure the same on those? The rack is only a year old. I bet they use cheap components when the rebuilt it.
